It's been a day with Kuro and even though I've just met him, I could tell he seemed a little down. "Is there anything wrong Kuro" The only response I got was not his purr but a large rumble which had appeared to come from his stomach.
I sighed and headed over to the kitchen opening drawers and cabinets grabbing a pile of food and bringing it back to my room. I took Kuro off my head and placed him on the floor; he wearily moved to my lap and layed his head.
"Now let's see here...I've got some cooked chicken, cooked fish, bread and milk. Do you want to try some?" Kuro ignored me and kept his head down showing no interest to my suggestions. I sighed and grabbed a book which I got the other day from my library in the house about dragons.
Opening the context page, I began munching on some chicken while in search of dragons like Kuro. "Fire dragons, Earth dragons... aha! Transitioning dragons", I opened up the page to reveal information from an egg to the transformation of a large dragon.
"Let's see here...there are three stages in your transformation. The first is your normal state which I suppose is now and the next is a medium-sized dragon. Lastly, a large dragon and oh...there's a picture."
The picture showed a large charcoal skinned dragon sitting on a large rock. "Is that what you'll look like Kuro?" Kuro sneaked a peek before nodding and resting in his previous position.
"So you like to eat raw meat, chicken or fish. That's quite the diet! You're quite picky." I held Kuro which seemed the size of one of my hands and placed him on top of my head once again. Again, searching in the kitchen, I managed to find raw chicken which piqued Kuro's interest as I could feel one of his tails moving side to side.
"Yuuki-sama, it's time for... lunch", Mira-san informed while being greatly disturbed to see raw chicken in my hand and a salivating dragon on top of my head. "Great, I'll be there in a second."
I placed Kuro on the counter as he gobbled up the chicken in my hand then resting with a ecstatic expression clear on his face. I made sure to thouroughly wash my hand after grabbing Kuro and running to the dining room.
"You're gonna have to stay in my pocket Kuro, I don't want father to know about you." Kuro obediently nodded and went in my pocket while his head poked out staring at the view.
"Hello father", I simply greeted as I sat down on the opposite direction of him.
"Yuuki, I have something to discuss with you."
"I'm all ears", I said jokingly.
"You are to attend a prestigious academy for royalty when you are older."
"But what about mother? I need to be there for her."
"Your mother and I have already agreed on it, she said she doesn't want you to worry about her so you'll be living in that academy from the age of fourteen until your studies are over."
Before I had the time to reply father explained rather quietly, "please fulfil your mother's wish."
"I understand father, I'll go", and I'll find a cure somehow one day. There must be a genius there who's figured it all out by now.
Before retreating back to my room, I took my time to visit mother who was looking through the window. "Is there anything wrong mother?"
"Oh...it nothing really. I'd just...like to go out again one day", she replied as her eyes lowered down to her duvet which she held tight till her knuckles went white. "I can take you there now if you want."
Mother looked into my eyes with tiny sparkle of hope in her eyes as she smiled, "there's no need for that dear. It's just one of your mother's selfish requests so you really don't have to."
I sighed and held mother's arm around my neck as I supported her upstraight. "You know I'll still happily take that request." Mother still had a bit of strength in herself as she could just about keep her balance as I held onto her.
Kuro, who seemed rather curious of the situation jumped out of my pocket landing on mother's head. "Yuuki... I think something went on my head", she said afraid.
"I'd like to introduce you to Kuro, my dragon. I was hoping you'd meet him sooner or later", I explained as Kuro began purring affectionately on top of mother. She smiled faintly.
Once we made it outside, I settled mother on a bench so we could silently watch the sun set as bright coulours overflowed the sky. "Mother," I started, breaking the silence, "father told me that I'll be going to an academy to live until my studies are over."
"I don't want you to get occupied over me but search for something you've always wanted to do. I want you to be free and staying here will keep you locked up until you're fed up."
"But I want to stay with you, you're ill enough as it is and I have to be there to look after you. I'll never be satisfied until I know I've tried."
"Yuuki, I love you...and this is what's best for you so please. Please do this for me, for your future."
"I will, I've already agreed on it with father so don't worry, just...wait for me, okay?" Mother nodded as a response as so we sat there in comftable silence watching the scenery before us; the fading light as birds began to chirp the night away.
I know that when I leave home, everyone in this household will see the same sun that sets everyday and in some way, it'd be as if we are still closer than we think we are.
Under the same moon and stars, we are together.
