A District Two Story

Chapter 1

   I wake up excited. Today is the day of the reaping, but I'm not scared. Today I am going to volunteer.

My name is Scarlet Grey. I live in district 2. This year is the 62nd Hunger Games, and I plan to win!

   I go to my closet and pick out a green cap-sleeve dress that looks nice with my dark brown hair. When I go downstairs I see my mom making blueberry pancakes. " I am so proud of you. I can't believe my baby is going to volunteer today!" She says to me. I smile. My dad nods his head in agreement.

   After breakfast we walk down to the courthouse where the reaping will be held. When we get there my best friend Rayla waves at me. I wave back at her and go sign in. After the peacekeeper pricks my finger I run of to where the 16 year old girls stand.

   The district 2 escort from the capitol walks on to the stage and says, "Welcome, welcome.  My name is Violet." We watch a video from the capitol and then Violet announces the tributes. "The female tribute from district 2 is Emmy Teller." Violet calls out in her capitol accent. Now it is my time to shine "I volunteer as tribute!" I announce. "Wonderful, and now for the boys. Ash Tomilson" Violet says. I look at the boys side and see a shaking little kid, most likely 12 or 13. I feel bad for him, he is so young. A minute passes and no one has volunteered. He is officialy in the games. "Congratulations to the both of you. Your family and friends can come visit you in the building before the train leaves." She says to Ash and me.

My parents come in the building and tell me to stay safe and make them pround. After they walk out, Rayla comes in and tells me to be smart and careful in the games. Then Violet hurries in and takes us to the train.
