I woke up next to Toby. My head laid on his shoulder and his head rested on top of mine. His arms were still wrapped around my waist.
" Kids! Dinners ready!" I heard his mum yell from down stairs. I shook Toby's shoulder.
" Wake up sleepy head." I laughed. He groaned and got up. The smell of roast meat wafted up the stairs. As soon as the smell hit our noses we ran down the stairs and into the kitchen where a buffet style arrangement of food was set out on the bench. There was a roast chicken, baked potatoes, vegetables, everything you could imagine. The whole bench was covered in food.
" Mum! Why is there so much food?" Toby exclaimed.
" Well I know how much teenagers like food so I just thought this might make you guys a bit happier." She smiled at me.
" Well you thought correct." I laughed. " I feel amazing already."
We waited a few minutes for Toby's dad to return home from work before we started. Toby's mum had spoken to him on the phone about my situation. He entered the house with a big smile on his face.
" Someones been busy." He kissed his wife's cheek. " Go on kids, dig in." We didn't need any more promoting..
After about an hour of eating I was full.
" Ugh. I'm so full." Toby said, mirroring my thoughts.
" Same." I laughed. " I think I need to sleep all this food off. Thank you so much, Deb.." I put my plate in the dishwasher and headed upstarts to the spare room. I pulled on my pyjamas and hoped into the large bed. I grabbed my phone and earphones and turned my music on and Chris Browns ' Take You Down' came on. I smiled when I got a text from Toby a few minutes later.
' night beautiful girl. see u in the morning '
I closed my eyes and feel asleep thinking if how great my best friend was.
I woke up Wednesday afternoon at about 2.30 pm. I had slept in big time. Surprising considering I hadn't felt tired at all. I heard the front door open. Toby's mum must've been home early.
" Kat. Can you come down stairs?" I heard Toby yell. I remembered that he had last period off, so he must've come home early. I pulled on a jumper and slumped down the stairs.
" Hey Toby-" I stared but was bombarded by a massive hug.
" Kat. We've missed you!" Casey squealed.
" Toby told us what happened." Emma was hugging me the most.
" What are you guys doing here?" I was shocked.
" When we heard about what happened so we kinda skipped school." Emma explained.
" Us girls gotta stick together." Casey laughed.
" OMG totes right!" Toby put on a girly voice, waving his arms in the air. The four of us erupted in laughter.
We spent the next couple of hours talking, gossiping and laughing until Casey and Emma had to go home and study for upcoming exams. Toby and I ordered pizza and stayed up late watching cheesy reality tv. I fell asleep in his arms for the second time this week.,
.~.
I spent Thursday and Friday at Toby's house instead of going to school, still not ready to face the music. I had daily visits from Casey and Emma. When it came to Saturday I was reminded of an important event.
" You feel up for Eric's party tonight?" Emma asked. I had totally forgotten.
" I'm up for any party. I seriously need to get out for a bit." I huffed.
" It's a date then. We'll be round at eight thirty." Casey confirmed. It was already five.
After the girls left I remembered an important detail.
" Ugh," I groaned. " I left the clothes I bought at home. I have nothing else to wear."
Toby scratched his head, then smiled.
" Then let's commence operation 'retrieve party clothes'." his smile grew as I nodded my head.
It was dark outside when Toby and I snuck down the street to my house.
" Stay here." I whispered to him.
" But what if something happens? I can't help you from here." He looked pleadingly at me.
" Don't worry. I'll be fine." I gave him a reassuring smile. As I took careful steps forward he stayed put. I jumped the back gate and located the window to my room.
It was still unlocked from when I left. I slipped through the window and gasped at the disaster zone in front of me.
My door was splintered inward, shards of wood scattered around the room. My clothes were strewn around the room and my furniture had been tipped over and moved.
I spotted my clothes instantly, screwed up in a corner. I picked them up and inspected them to find they were only crinkled, thankfully.
I quickly searched for some shoes and finally found some incredibly high black wedges.
I jumped swiftly back through the window and rub back to Toby. He whistle when I showed him the shorts and top.
" I have the hottest best friend ever." He laughed.
" A hot mess." I chuckled. It was 5:30 by the time I got home so I rushed upstairs to the bathroom and hurried to get ready.
