Why do you care?

I smile as Red runs into the woods. As soon as he was out of my sight, my inner barriers rose up again.

I turn to look at Riley. I raise my eyenrow in a form of a question. When he doesn't speak I grab my tray and book bag. I try to walk pass him but he moves to block my way.

I groan in frustration. Why won't he leave me alone? I try walking pass him again but he grabs my shoulder.

I gasp for two reasons. Reason one is that a have a newly bruise there. Reason two is because I feel tiny electric shicks run through my body. I jerk out of his reach.

"Wait, Nikki, I'm sorry. Before, in class, I didn't mean to ditch you for Katie. I just really wanted you to talk to me. I wanted a reaction out of you but you did nothing." He blurts out.

"Look, Riley, I'm not offended or mad. I'm used to it. I just really don't like talking. No harm done. We'll pretend we never met." I fake a smile and walk pass him.

"Is that really what you want?" I hear from behind.

I turn slightly to see his sad eyes looking at me. "It's not what I want but it's the only way that I know will keep me safe." And alive, I think.

I leave him standing in the middle of the field. I throw away my lunch tray. I look at the time on my phone to see that it's almost time for the last class of the day. Only three minutes until Science class.

I wait patiently in the hall for the bell. When it rings, students start piling out of the classrooms. As I head to my class, I see Riley run into school from outside. He looks around, looking for something or someone. Thinking that he's looking for me, I quickly walk into my class.

Science class ends and I'm thankful that Riley wasn't in this class. Leaving school, I see Kenny getting on the school bus. He smiles sadly at me. I smile back, well I try to.

Riley is leaning next to red 2012 Audi A4.

I rush out of the school gates. I. connect my earphones to my Note 3. Perfect by Simple Plan plays through them.

The walk from school to my house is long but I find it relaxing since I don't have to rush, like in the morning.

I'm walking next to the woods. I know that Red is in there, close by. He won't show himself due to the fact that someone will be able to see him. I know that he's there because I get a calm feeling when he's close.

My music is still booming through my earphones, that I don't notice the sound of an engine following me until I stop at a street light.

I turn to see the same red car that was at school. I can't tell if it is Riley because of the tinted windows. I try to act like I don't notice the car.

The window lowers and he trys calling me but I can't hear him so I don't listen to him. I cross the street but the light is still red for him.

After a couple of minutes, I see the car next to me. This time he parks the car and gets off.

I take off my earphones when it becomes obvious that he's talking to me.

"Why did you ignore me?" Riley scolds.

"It may be hard to tell since I have long hair, but I had my earphones on." I remark.

"Oh." he looks taken aback. "I was just wondering if you wanted a ride since you live far."

"How do you know where I live?" I groan.

"My father is the new principal. Please let me give you a ride. I worry about you. Something could happen to you on the way. You could get mugged or raped."

"Why do you care?" I finally scream, annoyed.
