After the initial day of working at my house, we went to Avery's place to finish the project.
I wasn't too keen on the idea of being around his family, but his parents and two older brothers were awesome. I mean, they even accepted him being gay, Death! It was the strangest, but most amazing thing I'd seen or experienced in a while.
They even offered me food, which I tried to politely refuse in a moment of panic, but Avery just grabbed a bag of chips and tossed them my way.
"Marcus, you need to eat when you can, knowing what your parents do to you," he said to me. I froze for a second, but looked at him and smiled.
"Okay."
His parents were watching this, and they had concerned looks on their faces.
"Sweetie, was it? What's Avery talking about?" Mrs. Thomas had asked me.
Death, like I've said before, I can't lie to a person who looks so sad and worried. I remember just telling her about my family and their apparent hatred toward me. I may have started crying halfway through... I seem to be doing that a lot lately.
Avery was there in a instant, his arms wrapping around my bony and starved frame. I still don't understand what he sees in me as friend material. I mean, my clothes are worn and ragged and I look like a vampire, I'm so pale and sleep-deprived. He's always there for me, another thing that I don't know why he does.
But what I do know is that I really love him.
His parents were there and holding me too, but Avery is who I remember most. It was the first time that I felt like someone truly cared about my well-being.
It was different, but I was grateful.
Oh yeah- Death. We finished our project and got an A.
I think I'm going to hold off on killing myself for a while.
I'll see you eventually.
