“Yes, I think we are” I said meeting both Tate and Molly’s eyes.

“I hope it’s safe there.” Says Molly looking down and grabbing Tate’s hand.

I placed the little paper note back into the mailbox, grabbed Molly’s hand and set off on our way. We were still quite close to my old house and I knew these streets off by heart. I knew Evolon Estate quite well, one of my old best-friends from school lives there. Well lived there I guess, she probably moved out when all this shit started, or maybe she could be one of the people in this small group. I really hope it is safe there. I need it, Tate and Molly need it. My train of thought just went on and on until I couldn’t think about it anymore.

We weren’t far from Evolon Estate now. We were on King Street which was the next street over. Molly and Tate were walking a little bit ahead of me now playing a small game of tag. I smiled at the thought of them being happy again. Surprisingly we hadn’t seen many dead except for those lying in the street. We reached Brighten Court, the Court that Evolon Estate was on.  We walked up the long road. After about ten minutes of walking we reached the big iron gates of Evolon Estate. They were shut and latched but not locked. We were finally here. I took a deep breath in and opened the gates.

We walked through the big gates and shut them behind us. We latched the latch and took in what we saw before us. We saw about thirty small, single apartments. They all looked the same. They were made of cream bricks and had small gardens in front of each. They had small wooden mailboxes at the front of the gardens of each house. We walked up and down the short, named roads until we found apartment 21. The streets had abandoned cars every now and then but overall it was pretty clean. We came to a stop in front of apartment 21.

There was an old bicycle lying on the slightly overgrown and orangey grass. The curtains were all drawn closed and the lights were out, except one. This must be the right house. Still hand in hand, Tate, Molly and I walked up the path to the door. I took a deep breath in and knocked on the red, wooden door. I waited for a moment. Nothing. I turned around and started to leave until I heard a lock unlocking. I turned back around and saw the door slowly open.

A boy who looked just older than me stood there. He had brown scruffy hair, brown, soft eyes and lightly tanned skin. He was quite tall and stood at least half a head higher than me. He was wearing cream shorts, an old looking t-shirt, a sweater and some worn out black vans. He looked down at me in shock.

“Hi” I started. “We got your note” I finished saying looking down.

“Really?” He asked. I looked back up at him still holding Tate’s hand and Molly standing next to me. “No one has ever come before. We thought there was no one left to come.” He said his voice sounding sad and happy. “Come in” He said standing aside.

I stepped back and let Molly and Tate walk in before me. I walked in next. We stopped and let the boy lead the way. He led us into a lounge room of some sort. We set our back packs on the floor. My eyes scanned the room looking at all of the other faces in the room. My eyes landed on one in particular. It was a girl and she had her face hanging low so I couldn’t quite see. “Zoey” I asked quietly. The girls face looked up. Her eyes were bloodshot and red. I saw tears begin to well in her eyes as did mine. She stood up and shakily ran over to me and pulled me into a big hug. I felt her sob into the crook of my neck. I hugged her tightly. Was I really just reunited with my best-friend since middle school? I was ecstatic. The other people in the room all looked at us. Tate joined the hug; Zoey was like a big sister to him. We pulled apart both lightly crying with joy.

The man who opened the door for us offered his hand out for a handshake. I gladly took it. His hand lingered for a few seconds but then pulled away. “Im Jakob” He said with a cute smile. I smiled back. I looked back to the other faces around the room. Jakob pointed to m and said all their names. “Jack, Brock, Harvey, Andrea and of course you know Zoey.” I let out a slight giggle and he winked at me. I blushed and turned away. “We introduced our selves, your turn.” Jakob said waiting anxiously. I went first. “Eilish” Zoey squeezed my arm a little. Tate and Molly went next. “Im Tate” He said snuggling in just a little deeper in my side. “Im Molly” Molly said excited to see new people.
