Staring at the Sky

"Can we take the night off here?" Four asked.

"We have to continue on. You may sleep though." He looked at me like I was crazy then lied back on his horse.

"So I'm guessing angels don't need sleep?" He half asked and half stayed.

"Need? No. Want? Yes. Who doesn't love sleep?" I lightly laughed.

"Ok so why can't you tell the horses to continue and you sleep?"

"Because the command only lasts an hour."

"Oh."

"Go to sleep."

"Ok." He went to sleep and I watched the stars.

"Well, well. What is this? Looks like our little angel came to us."

"Devil's men!"

"Oh sweetheart...your ours now!"

"Four wake up!" I screamed as I told the horses the run.

We could loose them quickly since they are on foot. "What's going on?" Four screamed when he shot up from the sudden burst of speed.

"Devils men are after us. Hold on tight!"

"We are not jumping that revere!"

"Oh yes we are!" I scooped up my dog and told the horses what to do. 'Trust in God.' And we leaped across landing softly on the other side. Four slowly opened his eyes as we galloped on. I asked the horses to slow and stop at the lake ahead for rest. "They will catch up. We can have a few minutes rest. Then we walk across the valley."

"Not ride?"

"No the horses must have their strength for what lies ahead." We both looked at the steep incline at the end of the valley.

"Oh my!" Was all he said.

The horses grazed, the dog chased butterflies, and Four rambled about how awesome that jump was. I however was silent, my thoughts consumed me per usual. As a guardian you don't have the opportunities to talk much so I have gotten used to staying in my thoughts. "What will you do when you get your wings back?"

"I will receive my next assignment. A new person to save." I said plainly.

"Oh...Are you sure?"

"Yes."

I decided to give him privacy by not entering his thoughts and instead focused on the clouds.

"You stare at the sky a lot." Four said after a few minutes.

"I wish to return someday."

"To the sky?"

"Yes. To the sky."

"Could I ever join you?"

"Only if you die and you would not see much of a guardian they are mostly invisible on earth."

"Oh ok. Thanks for answering all my rambling questions."

I lightly chuckled before answering. "My pleasure."
Our conversation turned to silence before we packed up and started walking.
