Sylvia carried Star into the den, making her two pups pop their heads straight up. She carefully set the sandy one next to them, which made them back up fearfully.

"Pups," she told them. The dark grey and light grey pups looked over at their mother, confused. She continued, "This is Star. He shall be your brother."

"What?!" the dark pup objected, "Since when?!"

"Fang, calm yourself!" Sylvia scolded him. Fang blew some air and frowned, his little canine tooth sticking out of his top lip.

"Did you just find him, Mama?" asked Fang's litter-mate. She sniffed over at the smaller pup, which turned its head away from her.

"Yes, Dara," the mother responded, "I believe he is an orphan. We shall care for him as one of our pack."

Fang gaped his jaw open in disbelief. Dara wagged her tail.

"What did you say his name was, Mama?" she asked.

"Star," Sylvia smiled.

Adolph howled from outside the den. Sylvia listened, then turned back to the pups. Dara was smelling Star intently, whilst Fang just sat there frowning. Star turned his little head bashfully away from the other pups.

"The older wolves are returning from the hunt, children," she told them.

Fang lifted his head slightly. At least food was coming. Star cowered in the corner, but Dara stopped smelling him quite so much and paid more attention to her mother.

Outside the den, three figures were approaching. There was a black one, a dark grey one, and a black and white one.

The black one howled, letting a red scar on its left cheek show in the moonlight. The other two howled after him, and they continued prowling towards the site. Adolph howled back to them, inviting them closer. They were carrying two corpses; one from a deer and another from a rabbit.

They eventually made it towards them. Sylvia sighed and brought the Cubs out of the den to eat. The dark grey one bit off a huge piece, earring it for himself.

"Morse!" growled the black and white one in a female voice, "Save some for the rest of us! You're so selfish!"

"Stop fighting!" scolded Sylvia. She turned back to the cubs and regurgitated some of the meat for them.

"Relax guys," mumbled the black wolf through the piece of rabbit in his jaws.

"You're not the top hunter, Brock," groaned Morse, the dark grey one, "I did all the work."

"What are you talking about, you log!" The black and white one growled, then she jumped at him, "We worked together to make this kill!"

"Joseina!" Adolph yelled, calling her off.

"Don't teach the pups violence against their own pack!" warned Sylvia.

Joseina groaned, pointing her pink and violet eyes to the moon. She grumbled something and ate the last of her share, regurgitating a bit for the pups as an apology.

"Mama," asked Dara to her mother, "when will we be allowed to hunt with the pack?"

"Yeah!" Fang smiled, wagging his tail.

Star just sat there, still getting acquainted to his new pack.

"You and Fang will have to wait another month, but Star here might take a little longer," Sylvia sighed.

She looked over, and Brock was talking in a low voice to Adolph. Adolph nodded his head, understanding, and said something back.

Sylvia tilted her ears towards them, hearing only two words.

"Other pack."
