Days must have passed, he wasn't sure. Not that Yorrick had been keeping track in the first place. He stood up, the heels of his boots softly sliding against the stone tile, listening to the nearly nonexistent echo of the sound of his clothes rustling. Edward, to his benefit, had remained quiet for the most part. Towards the nighttime, when the human became drowsy with sleep, he'd softly babble. He'd ask questions of where Yorrick came from or what it was like, or just ask for a story of which he'd reluctantly be told. It wasn't annoying or infuriating, to Yorrick's surprise.
Or was that the comfort of companionship amidst the loneliness of isolation?
Yorrick stood up tall, effectively towering over Edward; because of such a height difference, Yorrick took the bottom bunk and Edward had moved to the top. It was quite satisfactory to their needs.
"Yorrick?" Piped up Edward, startling Yorrick just a bit. The half-dwarf turned to his human companion, "Yes? What is it, Edward?" He asked.
"Do you think we'll get out of here?"
"You've asked that a million times. No."
"I have? I keep wondering if your outlook will change."Yorrick tapped his foot impatiently on the ground. "No, I don't think it will. I think people have already forgotten about us- but, what can we do about that? Nothing. Nothing at all." His voice was low and grim, not a shred of hope. He moved to sit on his bunk, the metal and wood frame creaking pitifully under his weight.
They waited, minutes became hours. Edward and Yorrick did not talk again that night. The following morning, however, Yorrick found himself being shook awake by Edward, who looked wide eyed and excited.
"Yorrick! Yorrick! Wake up, this is very important! Someone is here to see you!" Yorrick brushed aside Edward's hands as he slowly sat up. After rubbing his eyes, they focused on the two men outside their cell. One was a man dressed well, slack and a suit top, along with a tie. His mustache was well tamed, as was his hair. The second man was taller than him, thin as a rail, and dressed eloquently. He had pale skin and bright hazel eyes. This man had blonde hair, most of which was gathered in a wrap and pulled back. Perched atop his head was a widely brimmed hat, and judging from his ears, he had to have been an elf.
"You are.... Yorrick Farstien?" Said the man in the suit, looking over Edward. The human shook his head, "No, that's Yorrick." He gestured to the half-dwarf.
Yorrick nodded, "Yes. I'm Yorrick Farstien. What of it?" He questioned. He lowered the tone of his voice, which boomed in the room. He felt an intimating approach would be best. The edges of his mouth curled into a slight smirk at seeing the elf flinch. The shorter man adjusted his bow tie.
"Ahem," He started. "By the summons of the Queen, you'll be joining us." He began to unlock the cell, when Yorrick spotted the look on Edward's face. He looked horrified and depressed. His eyes went from excitement to a sudden realization, and his smile fell. He'd realized he'd be left alone. Yorrick suddenly felt bad- he felt like he couldn't leave Edward alone like that.
It would be rude.
"I'll go, only if I can take Edward with me." Said Yorrick firmly. He placed one hand on Edward's shoulder, effectively cupping it entirely. The man with the bow tie, paused, sighed, and unlocked the door. "I suppose."
After the door was opened and the two prisoners had left, they were led by the elf in blue and the man with the bow tie. The small party exited the prison house and were met with an extravagant, cloth topped and wooden sided. The man ushered them inside, and shut the door, telling them to get their pleasantries on and over with.
As the ride began, and the bow tie man whipped the horses, the elf in blue spoke up. He talked with a slight, mischievous grin that formed a small pit in Yorrick's usually iron stomach. "My name is Adnan Amadeus. Pleasure to make your acquaintance."
