Hi guys, so sorry for the late update. Been kinda busy. Well here it is! Sorry if it is kinda short~ Enjoy~
Naru's P.O.V
I stood rooted to the spot, behind me, I hear Ayako fall to her knees with a thud. To the side, I saw Hoshou grasping onto the door frame so hard it may splinter. John looked as if he was about to faint.
"Is that so?" I asked the teacher, not wanting to believe it.
"Y-Y-Yes," he replied, cowering in his chair.
"Was there anything she left behind at all?" I asked, trying to stay patient.
The teacher took a moment to think. "Y-yes. I believe the headmaster held onto the last remaining item we found left behind on the sport filed that undoubtedly belongs to Mai Taniyam-san."
"What was it he found?" I asked.
He frowned. "I'm not so sure, it w-was a small object wrapped in a handkerchief."
I nodded, exiting the classroom with the others in tow, not bothering to say anything further.
Hoshou P.O.V
I could not believe, little monkey was gone, with no trace. No way for us to save her. I held onto the door as if it was to prevent me from falling over. Ayako however, without any support, fell to the floor with a loud thud.
Judging from the rest of the group's expression, they didn't want to believe it either. Though Lin held his normal expression, Naru's looked extremely scary. Although his face was impassive as always, it felt like the room dropped to -100 degrees.
"Is that so?" Narus asked, his face neutral and impassive.
"Y-Y-Yess," replied the cowering teacher.
Naru continued his questionings, ignoring the man's discomfort. "Was there anything she left behind at all?"
The teacher's answer felt like it came a million years after the question had been asked. "Y-yes. I b-believe the headmaster held the last remaining item we had found on the sports field one morning."
I felt hope when I heard this and was pretty sure the others did too.I bent down to help Ayako to her feet, John aided me as well. Osamu, Lin, and Masako, like they always had, stood still and drank in the information.
"What was it he found?" Naru continued to ask again.
"I'm not sure, it w-was a small object wrapped in a handkerchief.
For some strange reason, Naru went stiff. I'm pretty sure the others noticed as well. With a curt nod, he left the room swiftly, as if he had just seen a demon.
We tailed behind him, knowing where our destination would be. The headmaster's office. Without knocking, he opened the door and strolled in with us following not far behind.
"Headmaster," he greeted.
"Shibuya-san," nodded the man, "I finally get the opportunity to meet you."
Naru nodded. "I'm here for the item Mai Taniyama dropped," he said, cutting to the point.
The old man nodded."Quite blunt, arne't you young one?" He opened his side draw, taking out a small bundle, placing it on the desk only for it to be snatched not moments after by Naru. What rude manners!
Naru did not open it, simply held it in his hand. "Did you look at it?" he asked.
"Yes," the headmaster said simply, "You should recognize it since it belonged to you in the first place."
"What does he mean?" Ayako asked.
Naru sighed inward, keeping his face uninterested and past it to the rest of us to look at. What we saw sent us into denial. The small object, wrapped in a violet handkerchief was a small framed photo of Naru and his twin brother Eugene.
"Why did she have this?!" I asked surprised.
"I gave it to her." Naru said quietly, more to himself than the rest of us.
The six of us, including Lin, looked at him with opened mouths. "You did?" asked Masako.
Naru didn't answer. Instead, he turned to the headmaster and asked. "Can you take us to the scene where you fou...."
Before he could finish, an alarm pierced the peaceful school. its sound shocking everyone into action.
That was when the headmaster began to laugh uncontrollably.
"What is so funny?!" I demanded, getting annoyed.
"It seems your in luck. Come with me," he stated simply.
Naru followed him willingly, as if he knew something we didn't. I followed with Lin by my side, the others hesitant at first but followed anyway.
We could tell where it was the man was leading us. The sports filed. Why?
We were all so confused when we suddenly heard a growl ahead, snapping us out of our individual thoughts. My mouth dropped open at the spectacle before me.
Humongous wolves stood on the field with a girl between them. From what we all could make out, the girl had her feet on one of the wolve's back, obviously holding it down. We could not make out her face, but the way the other wolves stood around her, glaring at the one below, they were all furious.
Beside me, Naru sucked in a breath. "Mai," he whispered, more to himself as if he was trying to make himself believe.
I turned to him wide eyed. "What?"
Mai's P.O.V
As Layne raced after Renji with me on his back, I could not help but feel helpless at the certain dilemma. I really did not want to go back to the human world, but with the situation at hand, I knew I had no choice. I was the only one who could calm Renji down.
When Renji bolted out of the trees, landing in the filed, visible to all eyes, I could not help but feel horror.
"Layne, Quick!" I cried.
Layne needed no further urging and bounded from the shade of the trees, leaping high into the air and landing in front of Renji, preventing him from getting anywhere past us.
I slipped off Layne's back with ease. "Renji! Get back to your senses this instant!" I demanded.
Renji howled, lunging forward at a break neck speed. Swiftly, I dodged to the side and used the threads I already prepared on my wrists. Without hesitation, I wrapped the released thread from my body, attaching them to Renji and the surrounding buildings and trees. I tugged on the thread, pulling Renji snout first onto the dirt. I went and stomped onto his head. "Wake up this instant you fool!" I growled under my breath.
His ears twitched. He had clearly heard me. Behind me, Layne, Lilac and Snow growled in annoyance. They were just as furious as I was.
I was about to lecture Renji when I suddenly heard footsteps coming our way. My head went up with a jolt, preparing to send them to sleep if needed. What I saw rooted me to the spot, stiff.
Before me stood my family, or what I remembered anyway. I recognised their faces, I frowned. Did I really know them?
I started doubting my memories when one of them seemed to whisper. "Mai." He had said, making my eyes go wide.
The tall man beside him, Monk, I presumed seemed just as surprised.
I closed my eyes and exhaled deeply, Ugghh. Could it get any worse?
