"Sidon!" Mipha gasped, throwing herself off of Link's lap. Link, also startled, sat up and pulled the blankets over his chest. They both looked incredibly guilty, and what was Sidon to think?
"Mipha..." Sidon whispered, stepping closer to his sister's spirit. "You're alive—and in bed with Link."
Link shivered and sunk further under the blankets. Mipha sat on the edge of the bed and adjusted her garter. "I'm not alive, Sidon. I am merely a spirit."
"It's been a century, yet your beauty hasn't faltered," Sidon forced, not making eye contact with the shaken Hylian shrinking into the headboard.
"Thank you. You definitely have the manners of the future king of Zora's Domain. I've missed you."
Blood surged through Sidon's veins. He, Prince of Zora's Domain, the prince nearly every young Zora woman yearned for after dark, could not woo the very Hylian he yearned for after dark. He was nothing compared to his sister. Nothing.
He swallowed. "I've missed you more, Mipha, but is this a bad time?" He finally looked to the Hylian who'd been moaning in his arms only hours prior.
Mipha chuckled. "I would've preferred to greet you in the morning, but there's never a bad time to reunite with my little brother. Right, Link?"
Sidon's heart sank. Link's name dripped from Mipha's lips like honey. Surely they were in love, and Sidon shouldn't have been surprised. After all, Link was Hyrule's smartest, strongest, most courageous hero—no, Hyrule's only hero. Prince or not, Sidon was far from worthy of being his lover. Link deserved a Zora Champion, like Mipha.
Link didn't respond; rather, he peeled the blankets from his half-naked body and swung his legs over the side of the bed to sit on the edge, facing away from Mipha. Not only was he overwhelmed with guilt for having been caught "cheating" on Sidon with his older sister; he also struggled to regain his composure after being violated by someone he trusted. Link ran a hand over his forehead and massaged his hairline with his fingers.
"Sidon, why don't we catch up in a few hours when the sun's risen?" Mipha suggested, shifting into her feet. "We wouldn't want to disturb the other residents."
"Yes, of course," Sidon agreed, stealing another glance at a stressed Link. "We certainly wouldn't want that."
Mipha nodded. "I'll be going then. Goodnight, Sidon. Goodnight, Link."
"Goodnight, Mipha," Sidon whispered, and Mipha's glowing spirit slowly faded into nothingness. That left Sidon and his favorite Hylian in a rather awkward position.
After a few seconds of silence, Link finally met Sidon's gaze. The Zora prince's broken expression sent another shiver down Link's spine. Sidon felt a range of emotions—anger, disappointment, and disbelief, to name a few—and each was painted on his face.
Nonetheless, he climbed into bed with Link and spooned him. Sidon's eyes rested on a pillar across the room as his mind traveled to torturous places. He imagined their kisses, their chuckles, their moans. An image of Link's pinched, pink face sent a pang to Sidon's chest, and he suddenly wondered why he'd embraced Link.
"I've never been in love with anyone before," Sidon revealed, swallowing. "Does it usually hurt this much?"
Link placed his hand under Sidon's and sighed.
"I do not blame you, Link; I blame myself. I, prince of a mere village, fell in love with the hero of an entire nation. You deserve someone as accomplished as Mipha—and Mipha deserves you."
Link turned to face Sidon and nearly suffocated under his pained gaze. Link feared that if he were to explain what had really happened that night, Sidon would no longer respect Mipha, the sister he had cherished nearly all of his life. Link therefore remained quiet, not willing to destroy a bond that transcended a century for the sake of redeeming himself.
"What baffles me, Link, is that even after you've completely shattered me to pieces," Sidon begins, gripping Link's hand ever-so-slightly, "I still find you to be the most admirable Hylian in all of Hyrule. I suspect that I've fallen too deeply for you, Link, and I fear that I'll never recover."
Link held his tongue as he inched closer to Sidon's body, until their hips touched. Sidon inhaled sharply. Surely Link did not intend to seduce him mere minutes after making love with his sister!
But Link simply rested his forehead against Sidon's chest and curled beneath him, sighing as the pressure in his chest dissipated. Safe within Sidon's embrace, he closed his burning eyes, exhausted.
Sidon exhaled and pushed aside a few strands of the Hylian's hair to reveal his sleeping face. He wished he could be angry at Link. Then, perhaps, it'd be easier to evade his love for him. But as his eyes traveled down Link's face—from his bushy brows, always slightly drawn, to his full, parted lips—he could not help but feel even more attracted to him. Sighing, he placed the blanket over Link's bare shoulder and closed his eyes.
Sidon wasn't sure how he'd cope with Link's absence, but for one last night, he didn't have to.
