I wake up really early the next morning, a dim light shining in my eyes. That's supposed to be the sun, but it's just helping me wake up. I get ready as quickly as I can, and wear a periwinkle colored full sleeve shirt and white colored shorts. They're not too short, but you know. They're short.
I grab my Fault in Our Stars book and my phone, and run downstairs as quietly as I can. I stuff my things into a random backpack that I find. I don't want to wake my father up and have him ask me questions.
Once I get down to the living room floor, I see that my father is sleeping on the couch, the one that isn't my mother's though. Which is good, otherwise I would've pushed him off. At least, in my mind anyways. My thought process though...
I tiptoe quietly across the carpeted floor. My real difficulty? Getting across the wood floor of the hallway. I would try to sneak through the kitchen, except then I'd need to walk on the wood anyways. I take a deep breath, and step forward. When my shoes touch the wood floor, there's no sound. I let out a bit of my breath and step forward with my other foot. The floor creaks. Panicking, I look back at my father who just turns the other way. I swear, this is like a cliché movie. I bet my father isn't going to wake up and I'll be panicking for nothing. I still continue to walk quietly, even though I'm a bit less careful. I'll be fine, I'll be ok. This is gonna be ok...
Until I hear someone get up. Whoops. Spoke too soon. Uh oh... Now is where I panic. It's rare when I do, but when I do panic, I panic hard. I slowly turn around and see that my father is standing up, glaring at me. "What do you think you're doing?" My father asks, sounding eerily quiet.
"I'm... Going out," I say carefully.
"With that backpack? Where are you going?"
"To see Resie," I reply.
"Oh. Sure. What are you really doing?" My father repeats.
"I'm... I'm..." Now I'm getting really nervous.
"Tell me. Now," I can see his fingers curl up into fists. I gulp quietly.
"I am just going to..."
"Tell me!" My father suddenly shouts.
"I'M PANICKING!!!" I shriek the first thing that comes to my mind.
Instantly, my father has this strange look on his face. "You what?" He asks me.
"At the disco!" I say, trying to sound upbeat. There's a an old band called Panic! At the Disco, and I listen to them sometimes.
"What are you going on about?" My father is very confused and angry, which isn't a good mix.
"There's this band I listen to, and yeah. I'm going to go show Resie the old stuff that she just... Doesn't understand. Yeah? So I'm just gonna go..." I try to reach over to the door to open it, but my perplexed father stops me.
It takes him a minute to understand what I said. "You... Oh, you're talking about the old things you watch and read and listen to."
I sigh quietly. "Yes Father. May I go now?" I ask.
"Make sure to come back before dinner, or else there won't be any for you," my father grumbles. It surprises me how he said that, even though I'm usually the one to make myself dinner.
Suddenly, he looks at me and says, "Warren moved." Oh great. AHAHAHAHA it's not as if I had anything to look forward to anyways.
"Ok." I answer back. "Bye," I try to walk out as fast as I can, and this time my father actually lets me. I run out and try to get to the Square as fast as I can. I've killed about half an hour getting outside. Once I get to the Square, I get that caramel shake again and sit down and read. I'm on the part where Hazel and Augustus were at the Anne Frank house. They had just gotten there though.
I don't know how long I sit there, until something happens. The something that I thought wouldn't happen.
I see Mystery Guy.
