Maisie hugged her knees as she curled up in the corner, listening to her parents fight.
"She's not normal! We can't look after her like proper parents should! What else can we do?!" Her mother yelled from downstairs.
"She's our daughter for gods sake! We can't just give her because she's different, listen to yourself Miriam!" Her Father roared in return.
Maisie could practically feel her Mother shaking her head. "She needs better than this Richard, face it, we aren't good enough for Maisie! We can't give her what she needs!" She sobbed.
"What she needs is her parents to love her and care for her, not view her as a monster or can outcast. Miriam listen to me, if we reject Maisie like this, she will never forgive us in the future, we need to stay strong for her."
There was a thud as if someone had been shoved.
"I can't do it! I can't take it anymore! I've lost my daughter to this! I can't look at her with any love anymore!"
Maisie lowered her head, clutching her music box as it played her lullaby. But it felt more like knives stabbing into her mind.
