Goodbye Arthur

Chapter 8

The next morning Merlin woke to find Gwen still sitting by the fire with the ancient book in her lap. "Gwen," he said sliding out of bed. "Have you been to bed?"

"Oh, Merlin," said Gwen starting. "Did you say something?"

"Have you sat there all night?"

"I wasn't tired, besides I think that I found something."

"What do you mean?"

"Well Gaius want's you to find them for some reason, right?" Merlin nodded. "I found some things about their stronghold."

"What?"

"Well, it was after where you read for one, but it was talking about how the founders had an inner part of a castle. According to legend, as their kingdom was in the midst of it's fall of the kingdom Alcar  enchanted a chamber in the summer palace to only allow the true descendants of the House of Life to enter and open the chamber. They would then bring back the ancient kingdom and the five houses will be reclaimed."

"Perhaps...." Merlin sat down next to Gwen.

"What is it?"

"I was told that Arthur would bring back Albion."

"Merlin. There is no way that House of Pendragon is related to the Ancient Houses. I mean if they were wouldn't they have to needed to take back that Kingdom. And we both know how Uther thinks of magic."

"Yes we do, but we need to find that kingdom."

"I found something about it already."

"Why do I feel like I am not going to like this."

"If what I know about Camelot is correct, then Camelot is built upon the summer palace. At least based on the descriptions of the landscape, there is a strong chance that they are  one and the same."

"At the least we can start our search there."

"And I think that Morgana and Arthur will help us."

"Not Morgana, I feel Morgause has a control on her mind. Morgause will not let her go willingly." Gwen 

Meanwhile in Camelot...

"Arthur, calm yourself," said Morgana. 

"How can I be calm when literally the world is going to shit?" Arthur almost shouted. Morgana just sighed and sat down in the chair in front of her mirror. "We have lost all contact with Gwen and Merlin hasn't been seen in days."

"Are you actually saying that you care for him?" asked Morgana brushing out her hair.

"I..." 

"Don't let Uther hear that," said Morgana turning to face him. "If you value his life." She got up and crossed to the window and a look of surprise crossed her face. "Morgause," she whispered.

"What?" asked Arthur crossing to stand next to her. "When did they get out there?" Across the hillside and advancing on Camelot was a humongous army. Fleet upon fleet marched on Camelot as they watched. Just then a servant burst into the room.

"My Lord," said the servant. "His majesty, the King, orders you to the war council." Morgana and Arthur looked at each other before hurrying out leaving the servant alone. 

"We need to get the gates shut," said a councilman as Morgana and Arthur hurried into the chamber. "Otherwise Camelot will not stand for long." Uther held up his hand silencing him. 

"Arthur, the defenses are in place around the city and the knights are under your command. You are to defend the city against Cendred's army." 

"What about the villagers?" asked Morgana stepping forward. "Have they been brought to the citidal yet?"

"The gates to the lower town are being fortified as we speak," said Uther. "The lower town will not last for much longer."

"You would let our people die and be slaughtered?" said Morgana and many of the council members looked down avoiding her gaze. 

"This is war Morgana. We must make sacrifices. Arthur go to the knights, they await your orders." Arthur bowed slightly to Uther and left.

"You may risk the lives of our people and send them to be slaughtered, but I will do what I can to help them," said Morgana before spinning on her heal and storming out.

"Morgana," said Arthur as the door to the chamber slammed shut behind her. "Even the citidal will not last forever."

"Do what you can to hold off Cendred and Morgause, I will find you some allies." Morgana turned down a side hallway leaving him alone with his thoughts.

Guys I need ideas for what to do next. I know the endgame but I'm having a mind wipe for the next section. Either go and comment on my most recent post on my Instagram or comment on this paragraph ideas. Best idea will be put into the next chapter that I post. 

Another thing is. I need a name for you guys, I'm thinking about calling you the moonlight readers but if you have a better idea comment on this post. Thanks.

Ps. I'm sorry for not posting last Wednesday but I thought that it would be better to not post and try to get something good to post instead of only posting 300 words or so.
