Chapter 1: A falling star means a has Contractor died

"Hei?! Hei where are you?!" Mao called.

"I'm over here Mao," Hei called back.

"The Syndicate gave us another mission," Mao said. He stepped out of the shadows in his cat form.

"Uh huh," was Hei's only reply.

"What are you doing out here anyway?" Mao asked.

"I was watching the sky," Hei answered.

"Why?" Mao asked sitting down beside Hei. Hei sighed. Yin, a blind Doll, who was a friend of Hei's and part of his team walked over. She sat down on the opposite side of Hei.

"Hey Yin," Hei said frowning. Hei was one of a few Contractors that had evolved to have emotions like Humans. Hei hadn't always been a Contractor. Though he never talked about the time before he became one to his friends.

Yin leaned against Hei's left shoulder. Yin was the only Doll to evolve to have some emotions and a will of her own. She considered Hei to be almost her boyfriend, but he was more of her protecter than anything.

"What's wrong Hei?" Yin asked, speaking in her mono tone voice as always.

"I was thinking about my parents and sisters," Hei said slowly.

"Sisters?! I thought you only had one?!" Mao cried out in shock.

"No," Hei replied rather annoyed.

"What's you other sister's name?" Wang asked as he strolled towards the group. Wang was an old man in his 60's. He was the only Human on the team. Wang worked with the Syndicate as the teams liaison. When ever they had a mission, Wang was the first to know.

"Rosa. My mother picked it out from a book of popular Western names," Hei said smiling at his reflection in the pond he sat in front of.

"You seen her recently?" Mao asked.

Hei shook his head. "I haven't seen her or Pi since Heaven's war. She was 3 back then," he said.

"She was 3?! Why was she there?!" Wang asked in udder horror.

"It's because our house was near by. I searched the house later on to see if I could find some trace of her. But I found nothing," Hei said as he looked up at the stars.

"A star falling means a Contractor has died," Hei whispered.

"What?" Mao asked with a confused look on his face.

"Rosa used to ask Pi about what it meant when a star would fall. Pi always told her, 'a falling star means a Contractor has died'," Hei said.
