"Yin? Is the target in sight?" Hei asked.
"No," Yin said.
"What?! But she was there a second ago?!" Mao yelled. Hei rolled his eyes. Yin dipped her hand back into the bucket of water.
"She's near the pond," Yin said.
"Which one?" Wang groaned.
"The pond where Hei told us about Rosa," she said. Hei look outside the window of the little house on the outskirts of Tokyo. Suddenly, he backed up.
"Hei?" Wang asked.
"It can't be," Hei whispered.
"Are you alright Hei? You look like you've seen a ghost," Mao said.
Hei didn't listen. He bolted outside and towards the pond. He stopped a few feet away. Hei stare for what seemed like forever.
"It's rude to stare, you know," I said turning around.
"Is it you?" Hei asked.
"Huh?" I replied with a confused look.
"Are you... No you couldn't be. You look like you're 15. She'd be 13 now," Hei said sadly.
"I am 13!" I snapped. Hei's eyes lit up. He reached for me. I backed up.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"Rosa, it's me..." Hei said.
"How do you know my name?!" I screamed.
"Rosa, it's Hei. You're big brother. Don't you remember me?" Hei asked. Hei's voice quivered as he spoke.
"Hei..." I repeated. His eyes lit up as I spoke his name. I thought hard. Suddenly, I grabbed my head in pain as memories of my childhood with Pi and Hei came flooding back to me.
"Rosa?!" Hei cried as he gripped my shoulders. Hei kneeled down so he's face was level with mine. He's grip was strong, and yet it wasn't tight enough to hurt.
At first I couldn't look him in the eye. When I finally looked up at Hei, my eyes filled with tears thinking of how long he must have been looking for me. He had probably lost hope long ago. I certainly had.
"Hei!" I wailed. I lunged into my big brothers outstretched arms. In my heart I prayed that this wasn't a dream. It seems to good to be true. Hei rubbed my back with one hand and wiped my tears away with the other.
"Hey, hey. It's okay Rosa. I'm here," Hei said trying to comfort me.
"But I thought I'd never see you again!" I wailed.
Hei sighed. That's when Mao decided it was time to show up. Yin chased Mao, trying to herd him back inside but Mao wouldn't cooperate.
"Hei?! Is this really Rosa?" Mao asked.
"He can talk?!" I squealed in excitement.
"Uh oh," Mao said. He bolted off towards the house. I chased after Mao so I could hug him. The whole time Hei and Wang laughed.
In the end I caught Mao and hugged him. Though he wasn't thrilled about it, he did enjoy the massage I gave him afterwards. Hours later, I fell asleep beside Hei on the floor with my head on his lap.
"Guess she must have been tired," Wang said quietly as he stirred a pot of rice.
"Looks like she's been on the run," Mao said as he tapped the computer keys with his paws. Yin walked over and sat down in the chair in front of the computer.
"Yah?" Hei said lifting me up and tucked me in his bed.
"It seems she's wanted for killing someone from the Syndicate," Yin said.
"What?! But last time I saw her she couldn't even hurt a fly!" Hei yelled in shock.
"Shut up Hei! You'll wake the kid!" Wang said sternly.
"I managed to hack the Syndicate's database," Mao said.
"And?" Hei asked.
"She's a Moratorium. She was having an episode and accident killed the guy," Mao said reading from the report.
Hei shoved Mao out of the way and stared at the screen. On the screen were photos of what had happened that night. I sat up, rubbed my eyes and looked at the screen.
"No!" I screamed.
Hei and everyone jumped. "Rosa? You okay?" Hei asked.
"Please! Don't look at those!" I screamed as I threw my shoe at the screen, knocking it over. I gasped as I saw my shoe was on fire. I looked at my hand.
In it was a ball of fire.
