Third person's POV
Esther frowned and thought for a second, she doesn't recall the fact that Kevin even had an assistant.

"Hello this is Esther Kaplan, I was recently discharged. Is doctor Olusola there?"she asked.

"Yes he is, he's just working on a bit of paperwork. How urgent is your situation?"he asked

Oh yeah, she remembers him quite clearly now.

Esther rolled her eyes. Why was he making this harder than it needed to be?

She thought for a second and fabricated a lie so twisted it would make the devil smirk.

"I've recently had another dizzy spell and I woke up this morning coughing up blo-"before she could even finish her sentence she heard and shriek and the sound of rushed voices.

"Hello Esther it's Kevin, are you alright? Tell me all of your symptoms"he hurried out. She tried her best not to laugh, she really did but hearing Kevin this frantic gave her a buzz no drug, alcohol or pleasure ever would.

"I am actually doing just fine Kevin, I just had a question for you and I knew this would be the easiest way to get a hold of you"she said and she felt his glare through the phone.

"Not funny Esther, what do you want?"he asked, his tone was ice cold.

"That's not how you speak to an Alph-"

"Cut the bullshit Esther" he growled
"Now tell me what you want"

She bit back a growl and tried her best to use a polite tone, but alas this is Esther and polite has just never been in her vocabulary.

"Listen to me beta and listen clear, I am asking this favor for my friend and nothing more are we clear?"she asked and he hummed in response.

"My good friend Mitchell would like you to join his pack, he needs at least one beta to join to make it legit because he's adopting two omegas"she explained and the phone went silent.

"Hello?"she asked but she heard not a single response but distant chattering.

Kevin soon came back to the phone and sighed.

"Well tell Mitch I'm sorry but he won't be having a beta" he said and Esther deflated, how would she tell Mitch?

"He'll be having two, I talked it over with Matt and he said he's very eager to join"he said.

Oh no.

Esther's eyes widened and she dropped her head in her hands.

"What is it?"Mitch whispered "is something wrong?"

"No no, it seems as though you've got two betas now which is great but the second one is weak Mitch, I don't think you want him he would be useless"she said.

Little did she know Kevin had put the phone on speaker a while ago and Matt heard every little thing. The betas heart shattered, he just knew she was talking about him.

Matt knew he was easily frightened, he was softer than most betas and he was quite sheltered but weak? Useless?

No one has ever used those words to describe him, at least not when he could hear them.

He looked at Kevin to see Kevin was already looking at him trying to gauge his reaction. Matt felt numb, he didn't know how to react to this.

The fact that he couldn't decipher how he was feeling and the way the words kept spinning around his head was taunting, it's like he could feel them trying to wiggle their way into his brain like knives but his naivety wouldn't allow it.
