"Hey water girl, get a load of this!" I earned a freezing cup of cold water splashed in my face. Everyone knows about my hate for water, so they take every chance to tease me about it. The boy- Fletcher- the one who splashed water in my face snickered with a bunch of his friends, Hunter, the twins Brent and Britt, and the scariest of them all- Lynus.Fletcher laughed and I wiped my eyes, with a little whine.
"What was that for, Fletcher?!" I schrieched.
"You're afraid of water... But you're name is about water. How does that make sense?" He teased.
"Shut up Fletcher! Go away! Stop bothering her!" I spun around to see my best friend, Nevelyn, standing behind me.
"Ooh and the little Nevvy comes to save the day!" He said in a baby voice. My best friend since the first grade- Nevelyn- was tall and scary looking. She is very protective of me, and she's always standing up for me. Nevelyn, or, Nevvy, stepped closer to Fletcher, who looked like a fly compared to Nevelyn.
"Leave her alone Fletcher. I wouldn't want to call Saben on you." Saben was Nevelyn's older brother, who was ten times bigger and scarier than Nevelyn. Fletcher's face dropped and he turned around. As he left, he shouted;
"Saben won't always be here for you Nevvy!" Fletcher and his 'gang' turned the corner and everyone who was crowded around us had left. I turned to face Nevelyn and inhaled.
"You okay Quarii?" She asked, pulling me into a small hug, not wanting to get wet with all the water across my shirt and hair.
"Yeah. I just hate Fletcher." I mumbled, hoping none of his droids would hear me. Nevvy chuckled and ruffled my hair.
"I think everyone does, Squirt." Nevelyn has called me Squirt ever since I met her, because I've always been a foot shorter than her, but only Nevelyn calls me Squirt, no one else does.
"Not his stupid droids." I retorted as I lugged myself to class.
"HEY WATER GIRL YOU GOT A LITTLE SOMETHING ON YOUR SHIRT!" I heard someone shriek as I walked into Mrs. Lachen's class. I rolled my eyes and took my usual seat in the back of the class. I heard snickering and some talk about planning to throw water on me again at lunch. I swore to stay in my classroom as long as I could when the lunch bell rang, but, for all I know, they could be hiding anywhere, with bottles of water stashed in their backpack. This was their daily entertainment. I forced myself to sit in the uncomfortable plastic chair and groaned. I put my hands up to my hair, and tried to ring out my hair, and it somewhat worked. Water splashed onto the ground and everyone turned towards me. I glanced up scanning the classroom, and as I looked towards the doorway, I saw my crush, Marco, handing out party invitations, a party I'm sure I wouldn't be invited to. As I watched Marco make his way to every person in the class, handing out a pink enelope, I saw he made his way over to me, and took a seat beside me.
"Hi!" He smiled. I just forced a smile back. He sighed.
"Look, I'm having a party, a pool party, actually, and I was wondering if you would like to come. You don't have to swim, but it'd be cool if you could go." He smiled, and flashed his pearly teeth.
"Marco, look. I'm the laughing stock of the whole school. If I'm invited to a pool party, I'll just get tormented. So, no thanks." His face was shocked.
"I'm not inviting Fletcher, if that's what you mean." I looked up to meet eye contact with his beautiful blue green eyes. I sighed and wiped my hands on my jeans.
"I guess I could go." I took a pink envelope with my name written in amazing handwriting. I stuffed it in my bag and looked at Marco. He was busy flirting with some other girls. What made me think that I was special to get an invitation to Marco's party?
