"Ari!" a cheerful voice answered the phone.
"Hey, girl," I answered, smiling. I let out a small groan as I flopped face first into the mass of pillows on my bed. Zara had been my best friend since kindergarten when I ate a red crayon and she helped me cover the throw-up with rugs so the teacher wouldn't see. Of course Mrs. Oller saw anyways and Zara and I got to know each other through a visit to the principals office.
"Are we still on for sleeping over tonight?"
"Yeah, of course! But, there's a slight change of plans..." I grimaced, hoping Zara wouldn't be angry with me. She was silent for a moment, then let out a tiny sigh.
"Lennon's coming, isn't he?" Zara said, her voice in almost a growl. My lips automatically formed a glossy pout, though she couldn't see it.
"Come on, you don't mind, do you? My parents are going out for the entire night because they think it's only going to be you! I promise Lennon and I won't do... anything," I let out a giggle, heat crawling up my neck and flooding my cheeks. Zara snorted.
"Or at least, we'll try. C'mon Zar-Zar, you won't be a third wheel, I promise!"
"FINE, fine. Lennon can come."
"Awesome!" I cheered, mentally fist pumping. "I'm going to tell him, then get ready. Be here at six, okay?" Without waiting for a reply, I hung up and kicked myself off of the bed, shooting Len a quick text.
Arabella - Hi baby! Zara's cool with you coming, be here at 6.
Len-Len - Cool babe, love u
I almost snorted at his somewhat vague reply before dropping my phone onto my bed, letting it be swallowed by the thick covers, and prancing off to my bathroom I shared with my sister.
Freya peeked her head in after me, her shower of light brown hair tossed up into a loose ponytail. She was 18, leaving for college as soon as summer was over. Fortunately for me, she was sneaking out to sleepover at her boyfriend Donny's house, so she didn't have to know that Lennon was coming over. It's not like she'd care anyway though, she loved that boy.
"What are you up to?" Freya asked, a glint of nervousness in her eyes. She probably though I was going to tell Mum and Dad about her going to Donny's.
"I'm getting ready for tonight." I decided to tell her about Len, so she wouldn't be worried about me telling. "Lennon's coming over. Zara will be here too still, so you don't need to worry about anything rated R happening."
"Oh... okay. If you tell Mum and Dad about me going to Donny's though, then I'll tell them about Len-"
I cut her off. "I know. That's why I told you. We can hold this over each other's heads," I smirked, turning to the mirror and piling my dark brown hair into a messy bun on top of my head. Freya joined me in the mirror, lugging her huge makeup bag along behind her.
"Don't get too fancy; Mum and Dad haven't left yet. If they see you dressing up, they might get suspicious," she warned me.
"That's why I'm wearing a bun," I shot her a pointed look. "And these," I gestured down to my mint green tank top, and plaid white/green shorts.
"Alright," Freya bit her lip, still looking worried. She worried about everything, it bugged the hell out of me.
"Seriously, Frey, be more worried about what YOU'RE wearing," I tilted my head at her, eyeing her clothes. She was wearing a black skater dress that flared around the waist and had thin straps.
"Whatever," she mumbled in annoyance, turning her back to me. She dragged out a ton of different makeup while I just swiped on mascara and lipgloss.
"GIRLS!" Dad's roaring voice brought us fleeing down the stairs ten minutes later.
"Yes?" we asked innocently, looking up at our parents. They were dressed in fancy clothes. Their plan was going out to a nice dinner and spending the night at a 5 star hotel, supposedly to give me and Zara the house to ourselves (along with Freya, even though she wouldn't be there, which they didn't know).
Mum gave us a quick hug, smiling. "Be good!" she warned us, her eyes twinkling in amusement before she walked out the door. Dad was a bit quicker to judge as he eyed Freya's dress.
"Not planning on going anywhere, are you?" he asked her, eyebrows rising slightly. She shook her head quickly and I detected the guilt on her face. She couldn't hide anything from me.
"Nope, just staying in with Ari and Zara tonight," she grinned, speaking rapidly. Dad nodded, pleased with her answer, and left after a quick exchange of I love you's.
We heard the engine start and then rumble off, and Freya and I exchanged quick grin's. "Tonight's going to be wild," I stated, and she nodded in agreement, straightening her dress.
Little did I know, tonight wasn't going to be the best definition of the word wild.
