 Chapter 5

 A Bitter-Sweet Recollection

_________________________

Remember the sudden fiasco Mr. Bolt had with both me and Madam Brookes yesterday? Well, it sure gave him the will to look like he's been sentenced inside the classroom for a decade. Slumped on his chair, his blonde hair nest tousled, crossing his pallid yet gaunt arms, the inevitable bruise like bags under his eyes and a big, unpleasant frown sure made him look like an old retarded clown.

All sat on chairs, all except Liam Clarke who at this juncture was being berated countless times by Madam Brookes just outside the hall. Pity for the poor guy. I peered through lashes to see Mr. Bolt. Still a disgusting old clown. I snickered by the thought of him joining a circus. He sure would be the perfect replacement of monkey behind bars.

I felt a slight poke behind me and instinctively, I turned to see who it was. Faye sat on Liam's chair with a disappointed look on her face.

"What?" I queried keeping myself cool.

"You just made a bad choice," she said sternly

Faye's going mommy mode. She does it whenever she knew someone was wrong.

"Which one?" I asked with raised brows as I said it all nonchalant.

  She sighed.

"One, you agreed to a competition with Melisa. With Melisa!" she enunciated the last phrase. "Two, the competition was about who will win Anti-Woman first. He's like a thing, a prize in that case!" she whisper-yelled inching closer to my face.

I thought pensively about what she said then realized it had been a dead, wrong move. I had just gained his friendship. Making him as some prize or trophy made him seem like a non-living thing. I hadn't been cautious. Too amused to see Melisa lose her sanity and too focused to not losing him to her.

"Dianne, I'm sorry to worry you. You just need to know you're wrong. Once that conversation leaks, your friendship with Brandon could possibly be terminated," she said trying to pacify me.

"It's okay. I was being imprudent. Please don't tell Brandon about that. Not a word to anyone. Our secret," I said with a tremulous smile on my face.

 "I recorded," she said smiling.

  My smile broke.

 "You what?!" I shouted.

Everyone except Mr. Bolt looked at me. I couldn't blame them. I'd look at myself if I had a mirror. I'm just so freaking hot! Ego was on my side.

I sent them a look that could've hushed the entire cricket population in a whiz. They all resumed their work which was chatting and laughing like the teacher wasn't inside the classroom. Well, mentally Mr. Bolt wasn't in the room. He zoned out to what seemed like decades ago.

"I recorded...." Faye whispered after everyone's attention was with their own cliques again.

"I understood but why?" I queried slightly in a dour tone.

"I recorded when Brandon agreed to be friends with us but when I was about to stop the recording, Melisa came by. I had a hunch that you'd agree to something with her. So I didn't stop the recording." She said it all too fast but I caught every word. "Please don't kill me," she said as she closed her eyes.

"I won't kill you, silly, but why on the face of Mars would you record a friendship announcement?" I enunciated every word.

She raised her thumb. "Uno, we are Brandon's first female friends. Made official on the same day in a matter of minutes." Her index finger. "Dos, I needed proof in case he decides to forget us." Then her digitus medius. "Tres, he told us that we could sit with them during lunch," she explained.
