Now, the two sat in Betty's garage working on the new dance moves for the vixens. The room echoed with the tapping of Veronica's pencil. Betty shushed her.
"Can't you be quiet for a minute while I think?"
Veronica put the pencil behind her ear. "Sorry Queen Elizabeth." She rolled her eyes.
"I wish Cheryl never put us together."
"I wish she never tore us apart."
Betty sat in silence staring at her semi blank paper. "Sorry."
Veronica swiftly stood up and crumpled her wasted idea of a page. She pulled out the necklace she had gotten for Betty while they still were dating.
"Why do you still have that?"
"It doesn't matter." Veronica took Betty's hand and deposited the necklace onto her palm. She took in Betty's confused expression before continuing, "run away with me."
Betty's eyebrows skyrocketed. "Excuse me?"
"Elizabeth Cooper, I love you, run away with me."
"What in the world are you talking about?"
Veronica took in Betty's appearance. Her high pony tail tied with a blue and gold bow made her look so innocent. Her short skirt - the one thing that kept repeating in her mind - made her seem less so. Veronica was so captured with Betty, so enamored, she thought her heart was beating louder than an airplane taking off when she said, "let's run away and get married."
Her heart broke in two when Betty laughed - an angelic yet taunting laugh - right in her face. "That's absurd, V. Why would I?"
"Because you love me."
Betty's lips formed a straight line, perhaps that was the only thing straight here. "You're serious."
"I don't have a suitcase full of my clothes and enough food to last us three days in my car for nothing."
Betty, unbelieving, went over to Veronicas car and was amazed that the items were there. "And after three days what would we do?"
Veronica fingered her prized pearl necklace. "That's why I brought this. It would get us an apartment in Pembrooke for nine months."
Betty's mouth hung open. "You really do love me."
Veronica took Betty's hands. "I might be crazy, but I understand your position. I feel the love between us and I know you want to be with me. If we stay here, our love will be stomped out. We need to go somewhere more accepting, somewhere you can be free to be yourself and love me. What do you say?"
"I...I wanna go with you."
Veronica's mouth opened in amazement. "Hurry and pack before your parents come home!"
Betty ran upstairs and started pulling things out of drawers and shifting things around. As she waited, Veronica browsed through the picture books the Coopers stored in the garage. Little Betty with Archie, Polly, Chic. Everyone that was in Riverdale seemed to be in the pictures. As she held one up - Betty blowing out the candles on her 13th birthday- to examine it, she noticed a reflection appear in the picture.
"What the hell are you doing here?"
Alice Cooper stood with her hands on her hips at the entrance of the garage.
"Oh well Betty and I were practi-"
"I thought I banned you."
"Well-"
"Get out."
Betty came downstairs, lugging her giant suitcase. "Well Ron I'm al-"
When her eyes met her moms, she froze.
"Where do you think you're going?"
"M-mom..."
"We're leaving, Mrs. Cooper." Veronica interjected.
"Excuse me?"
"Mrs. Cooper, I love Betty. And she loves me. No matter what ban you put on us, we will always love eachother. You might have a problem with gay people, but our love is real. You can't stop us from loving eachother. Just accept that your perfect little daughter is gay and in love with a girl."
Mrs. Cooper exhaled and took Betty's bag from her hands and started hauling it back up the stairs. "No one is going anywhere before we can all talk."

The three of them sat around the kitchen table. Betty clutched Veronica's hand and Veronica felt it was going to fall off.
"So...the rumors are true then, Elizabeth?"
Betty gulped, "yes mom."
"And how long has this been going on?"
"For a while now."
Alice exhaled. "Betty...as long as you too are happy...I'm happy."
Betty's eyes widened. "What?"
"Honey, at first I was a bit shocked since you never told me first hand and I didn't want to believe any rumors about my little girl. But...it's true and...you're both so happy."
"What happened to the whole ban?"
"That was mostly the work of your father, the homophobic freak. I just want you to be happy. And when I saw you, crying because of Veronica, I got scared. Can you blame me?"
Betty smiled, "we can stay, Ronnie."
"Really, what about the rest of the town?"
"Screw them. I just want to be happy."
Veronica squealed and jumped into Betty's lap.
"I love you!"
Betty blushed, "I love you more."
