For the next month the girls tried to make the other more jealous than before. Veronica became official with the oblivious Archie while Betty moved from boy to boy until she eventually became known as the 'Riverdale Heartbreaker.'

Then, on February 16th, Riverdale high hosted The Snowball, an event teenagers in attendance will remember forever.

Veronica picked out her tightest and sexiest outfit and paired it with the most expensive piece of jewelry she owned - her pearl necklace.

Archie arrived at 5 just as he promised and brought a pretty bouquet of flowers.

"I bought these cause they matched your eyes."

Veronica smiled. Archie wasn't a terrible boyfriend. In fact, he put all her New York boyfriends to shame.

"Thank you, Archiekins," she kissed his cheek, "let's get going."

They got to the dance early and the gym lights were still on. She spotted Reggie hopelessly hitting on Midge, Moose unaware at the punch table, and pretty Cheryl reapplying what Veronica expected to be her hundredth coat of lipstick today.

The redhead sauntered up to the couple.

"Soooo, Veronica, do you really think you can get away with looking this slutty at a high school dance?"

Veronica rolled her eyes, "I think you would know. After all, aren't you the attention seeker here?"

Cheryl frowned, "enjoy your night, vixen."

Nodding in acknowledgment, Veronica gripped Archie's arm tighter.

"I can't wait to slow dance with you."

"Me either, Ronnie," Archie looked towards the door and began waving. "Look it's Jughead! And he brought a date!"

Veronica smiled and stood on her tiptoes to try to see who in the world would willingly be Jughead's date. When her eyes caught a glimpse of blonde her heart dropped.

"Jughead brought Betty?"

There, before Veronica's eyes stood the weirdest outcast of Riverdale high, sloppy and underdressed, arm in arm with the most beautiful woman in her world. She eyed Betty's dress - a baby blue gown - and felt her heart kickstart and beat a million times faster.

She was so beautiful, so divine, so....

Dating Jughead.

"Ronnie...can you not deathgrip my arm?" Veronica only nodded as she let go entirely.

Dancing. More dancing. Quick side glances at Betty whenever she came near. More dancing. Awkwardly talking to Jughead about the state of the punch bowl. So much dancing that Veronica thought her feet were going to fall off.

She spotted Reggie dancing with Lottie Little and decided to signal him to dance with her. When he came over happily, Veronica grabbed his suit collar.

"Hey what give-"

"What the hell did you say to Betty? I told you to win her back not date every gross boy in Riverdale til almost coming full circle!"

Reggie smirked, "Look, I told her how much you loved her. Then she told me to shut up and kiss her. So I did, of course. Not my fault she went out with so many guys."

"Why wouldn't she come back?"

"Ronnie, I don't know ok? Maybe cause Riverdale is the most homophobic place around. I didn't make Betty go out with me. I'm actually kinda mad she ditched me after the first date."

Veronica chuckled.

"And you should have moved on. After all, you're with Archie now. Doesn't he mean anything to you?"

She let go of him forcefully. "Just leave me alone."

She ran into the girls bathroom, tears staining her rosy cheeks. When she slammed open the door, Betty stood at the sink, splashing water onto her face. Her eyes were puffy with tears.

Veronica's frowned and turned to leave. Quickly, Betty grabbed her arm and brought her back inside. "Betty wha-" was all the brunette could say before Betty pulled V's face to her own. The two began to make out, and Betty lifted Veronica onto the sink. She desperately tugged at the brunettes dress hoping to unbutton it. Veronica's mind ran: holy shit I'm making out with Betty Cooper. She wanted more and just as she went to move her hand, she heard faint laughing. She pulled the blonde from her with protest and looked towards the door.

Cheryl stood there, phone in hand. Recording.

Betty was speechless. Veronica charged toward Cheryl screaming and demanding the redhead delete the video.

"Never in your wildest dreams."

Cheryl made her way to the stage where she tapped on the microphone three times. "Thank you all for coming out tonight. The snowball was a huge success!"

During her pause for cheers, she hooked up her phone to the projector.

"I must be the one to say, tonight has not exactly been the most PG. I'm sure everyone knows who these girls are."

The screen showed Veronica and Betty, passionately making out.

As the crowd gasped and searched for the girls, Veronica reached for Betty's hand.

"It's ok Now. Everyone knows." She looked up to see the blonde crying.

"No...I don't want this Ronnie. I'm sorry."

She yanked her hand from Veronica's and ran out of the gym. The guests hollered at the screen and Veronica looked up at Cheryl.

She was proud and smirking.

Veronica's heart broke. It felt like her whole world fell apart.

Vertigo is expected at a school dance when everyone parties too hard and become winded, but that's not the reason Veronica feels it.
