Since I was three, I was sent to my grandmother's house by the shore every summer so that I could clear my lungs with fresh sea air.

Well, when I turned ten, I realized that I was sent to my grandmother's so that my parents wouldn't have to deal with me.

Screw them.

My grandmother was a kind person who always asked if I wanted something and tried to get it whenever I asked, which was seldom.

One day, Grandma was sleeping in when I was fourteen, so I decided to walk along the shore. I walked down the sandy pathway to the rocky beach, where the waves crashed against the jagged rocks, spraying salty seawater everywhere. I carefully made my way to one of the large, dry rocks, and sat on it.

Seagulls cawed above as they flew towards the town. Strangely, it was nice outside; the sun replaced the usual gloomy clouds, which made everything feel a bit warmer.

After sitting there for a while, I make my way back to the path that led to Grandma's house. When I reached the pathway, a melodic voice pierced my ears. I spun around, trying to locate the owner of the mysterious voice. I scanned the beach but I couldn't see anyone.

Weird.

So I went back inside the house, closing the door swiftly behind me.

Night

I was sitting on the same rock I had sat on earlier today when I heard the voice again. This time, I could clearly tell what direction it was coming from. Despite the waves that kept on crashing onto the shore, the beach was well-lit by lanterns, lighting my way across the slippery rocks.

Once my feet hit the sand, I dashed towards the voice, kicking up a flurry of sand.

Then I saw her.

A girl was standing in front of the waves in a simple blue dress, her black hair flowing down to her waist. She was swaying softly with the wind as she sang a soft melody that I couldn't identify but was beautiful nonetheless. Her eyes were closed as she stood where the sand met the water, slightly soaking her feet.

The nearby lanterns cast a warm glow upon her, making her look ethereal. Her voice gradually softened into silence as the song ended. She opened her eyes and looked towards my direction. We both froze when we had eye contact.

I didn't move a centimeter, thinking the girl would run away and mumbled,

"Hi."

The girl relaxed a bit and sheepishly said hi back. An awkward tension began to grow between us and I was desperate to break it.

"What's your name?" I asked, slowly inching towards her.

Her brown eyes widened and replied, "Dal, as in the moon."

What a pretty name.

"Well, I'm Kim Taehyung and a pleasure to meet you, Dal-ssi." I mock-bowed and she giggled. I liked her laugh.

"Honored to meet you too, Kim Taehyung." She curtsied gracefully and smiled, showing a slight dimple on her right cheek. Suddenly, she raised her brows and asked,

"Were you listening to my singing earlier?"

Her tone made me think that she was probably one of those girls that don't like to sing in front of people, but I nodded my head. Dal was a girl I wanted to know more, not scare away.
