Chapter 8: the Truth.

Alex's POV:

After gym, I sprinted back to the change room, trying to minimize the chances of seeing him. Where was Sloane? I needed to talk to her..she had disappeared with Jaden within the first few minutes of class. Sasha came up behind me, panting as I untied my shoes. I grinned at her, hiding everything, but she could tell.

"Just ignore him." she said faintly, kneeling beside me to untie her own shoes.

"I'm trying, but I can't forget.." I pleaded with myself to stop thinking about him.

As if reading my mind, he walked in with Dustin. He saw me bent down, and his eyes lit up as he walked over, a slight slouch making his back hunch.

"Hey! I'm Evan." he grinned, "And you--" he cut off as I turned around, brushing him off completely. I heard Dustin chuckle.

"Damn man, you just got told." he laughed, his eyes bright.

"Shut the fuck up Dustin." Evan muttered.

I laughed to myself as I heard their exchange. Damn right he should feel rejected! He still didn't recognize me. 'Asshole..' I thought, as Mr.Faunlick walked up, pulling his keys out of his pocket and unlocking the boys and girls change room. I walked in without a glance back, but I could feel his eyes on me.

I slipped off my shorts, searching for my jeans.

"dammit." I mumbled, finding them in a bunched up pile at the bottom of my bag. I pulled them out, snapping them once to get rid of some of the wrinkles.

I slid them on, my thoughts on Kade. What would happen when I went home? I pulled off my shirt, not thinking.

A collective gasp went sound the room as the raised white scar on my stomach was revealed.

(flashback)

I remembered when I had heard about it.

There was something in me.

Causing me to hardly be able to breath.

Something that was spreading to my stomach.

The contagion.

My surgery was the next day.

I was so afraid.

^day after the surgery.^

God...it was so bad. I stood in my room, shirt pulled around my chest, the full length mirror giving me a good view of it. The stitches were still visible. I couldn't stand it. I touched it gently, to make sure it was real. I whimpered softly as pain shot through me. No one could know...

(flashback to the present)

Everyone stared at me, shock widening their eyes. Finally, Sasha walked up to me, tears in her eyes, arms wrapping around me gently. I saw Sloane enter, she had already seen the scar and knew its back story.

"What the fuck are you looking at?" she growled, and everyone broke eye contact with me, looking away. I touched her shoulder gently, and whispered "thanks." before slipping my shirt on, recovering the horror.

I walked out before the bell rang, head down, wondering what I was going to do. I bumped into something hard, and looked up to see Kade's icy blue eyes looking at me. I shivered, and his eyes softened, his arms going around my waist to hug me. I tensed slightly, and then relaxed in his arms.

I felt his breath against my ear and turned my head slightly.

"I'm sorry for what happened this morning," he whispered. "Please accept my apology?"

I sighed softly and pulled back, seeing honesty in his eyes.

"Yes Kade, it's fine." I said, looking straight at him.

"oh thank god.." he said, his shoulders relaxing. I hadn't even noticed how tense he was.

"Why is it a good thing?" I muttered, looking at the ground.

He tilted my head up by my chin, and leaned closer.

"Because I find you cute, and I'm going to win you." he whispered, his lips brushing my cheek, and then he was gone.

I stood in place, shocked.

BRIIIINNNNGGG.

The bell rang, and I jumped slightly. Arms linked through both of mine, and I looked to my right and left, seeing Sasha and Sloane grinning foolishly at me.

"Ready for math?" questioned Sasha.

"the test?" added Sloane.

I yelled in surprise.

"a test?! FUCK!" I moaned in protest.

I heard a giggle, and saw Sloane glare at Sasha.

"You were joking." I stated, not really a question.

"Yes!" said Sasha, just as Sloane muttered, "your an open book."

We walked down the hallway, no need to stop at anyone's lockers, dodging E.O.P's and grad students who were covered in sharpie.

Math class was going to be bad....
