Life hurts a lot more than death

"Denahi the door!"
Within seconds, the uncomfortable sound of red-hot, crackling metal filled the air as the door slowly melted off the hinges. The doorframe liquified around the edges, popping and snapping as it dripped molten iron onto unsuspecting soldiers below. Their screams of agony echoing, and most likely warning the entire palace of our presence...had the bomb not already done that for us.
Toni sprinted through the growing opening, narrowly dodging a drip of molten metal. It splattered on the ground, sizzling and crackling.
The sounds of bodies dropping, soldiers screaming, and Toni's Winch whirring signified to me that he had that particular room covered.
I swerved, backtracking over the pile of bodies, and running back down the way I came. The large door on the left, behind two enormous pillars, made entirely of ancient human skeletons...all of the bones had symbols naturally etched in them. Symbols that were done by no man..signifying that they were, in fact, Uniques.
My radio clicked and crackled inside its pouch on my shoulder, making me tear my gaze away from the horrific sight of my own kind being strung up as a trophy.
The light on the small device gleamed red, announcing an unknown transmitter on my line. With slightly trembling fingers, I allowed access to the unknown signal.
Regret flooded through me immediately though, once I heard the familiar voice.
I see you.
I wanted to turn, to look all around me, but my legs seemed to solidify like concrete...rooting themselves to the floor.
Instead, I forced myself to speak into the radio. My voice remained calm and ice cold.
"Can you now? Well congratulations, you have officially mastered the art of stating the obvious."
Once I finished with my snarky response, my thumb released the button.
The radio seemed to shake violently in my hands. The force of his voice undeniably strong, and unearthly.
Coli is... displeased with the current events. You would do well to remember who you are dealing with.
"Well, he seemed to know we were coming so it can't be that bad."
You blew up half his palace. Now he's coming for you
"Wouldn't be the first time," I fired back.
He seemed to get angry now.
I can no longer protect you here.
Confusion ran swiftly through my veins, matching the racing kerthumps of my heart.
"Protect me?"
I am giving you a chance at survival, it'd do you good to take it.
"Like hell, I'm going to trust you. You work for the king!"
