Chapter 9: Training

I stared at my new master blankly. "Like, now? As in- right now?"
He nodded and moved his cane in front of him.
"Yes," he looked at me up and down "go change."
I ran to my room and pulled on some leggings, my shirt is fine, I thought. With that I ran back out to the living room and dusted myself off. "Okay! I'm ready!"
"Follow me, Odette. And Raphael, you will join us." Splinter started to head to the room across the way as I looked back to Raph, both of us wide-eyed , until he quickly changed his expression to a cocky smile and started to follow Splinter with me behind them.
We entered a room with sliding doors and a big tree in the middle. I followed Raph's lead and sat on my knees facing Splinter.
"I see you already know some basic stretches. This is valuable. Continue to practice and today we shall apply them to combat."
"...Oof" I heard Mikey bust up laughing at my comment behind the sliding doors and couldn't help but crack a smile. Master Splinter sighed and carried on. "I assume you have your left and right,as well as your middle splits?" I nodded. "Good. Stand up. First I want to have Raphael show you a few basic stances," Raph stood at the mention of his name. "then we will move on, and over the next few weeks-" he looks at me again and I could tell he was noting how small I was. "maybe months, you will be training with Raphael to gain enough strength to go on patrol with the boys and April." I looked at Raph who didn't seem to be protesting, but almost nodding his head in agreement.
"I'll let you get started. I need to meditate on our training schedule now that Odette will be joining us."
"Okay, Master Splinter."
"Hai, sensei." Raph said. Master Splinter left into another room. I looked at Raph and he clapped his hands together.
"Alright, first off, start saying 'hai sensei' just ask Leo more about that stuff later. But for now I need you to stand strong. Eyes focused, elbows locked, and keep your stance low, like this." I looked at him and tried to copy.
"Like this?"
"Uh sorta. Kinda move your back so it's straighter."
He came up behind me and adjusted my stance, one hand on my arm and the other on my back. I couldn't help but turn red. He stood back and crossed his arms in admiration.
"See? You already look 100 times more threatening."
"Thanks?"
"No problem. Lets move on, yeah?"
"Uh... Hai!"
He laughed started to show me another stance.
After Raph trained me in a few more stances I sat on the floor and watched him play around with what I learned were sais and got lost in thought. Even though Raph was taking this seriously, I had a lot of fun with him; showing me stances and a few different ways to punch from them. I also helped him with his flexibility a little. We're a great team already! I just hope my stupid face wouldn't be so red when I'm around him. I don't know why, but it just get super hot out of nowhere and my heart beats like, super fast.

My thoughts were interrupted by the sliding doors revealing Splinter with something in his hands. Raph stopped and watched his father walk next to him, facing me.
I stood up and went across from them, smiling at Splinter.
"Miss Jones, I hope you continue to make progress. I know your training will be rigorous, yet I have faith in your strong spirit. So, I brought you a... welcome gift."
He outstretched his arms and I took the paper wrapping into my own. I looked down at it and back to him a few times.
"May I open it now, master?"
He chuckled at this and nodded.
I sat down and opened it immediately, looking down at a dark red shirt with the same symbol as Splinters wrobe, black pants, and some sort of beige bandages/wrappings.
"Are those for training?" Raph looked to his father in question and he nodded again.

My eyes shone as I looked back at Master Splinter. I leapt up and hugged him.
"Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!" I stepped back, cleared my throat, and deeply bowed, feeling my cheeks grow warm with embarrassment at the sudden display of excitement. "... Thank you, Sensai"
"You are welcome." Splinter said with a small yet warm smile. And walked back into his room before saying; "Every day after school you must train with the boys." Ughhh school. "You are welcome to watch their other sessions though." With that he smiled and walked into his room again.

I turned to Raph and gave him a hug.
"...thank you, Raphael." I pulled away slowly and looked at him. It took a while for him to process what just happened, but he continued to stare with his electric eyes until he said " no problem, go put those away and I'll teach you how to wrap later ok? Go rest or something... you worked hard. " after that he walked out. I grabbed my stuff and looked around the dojo smiling. I really love it here.

After running to my room and putting away my new gift I was kinda tired after our little session and decided to lay on the couch. Mikey was playing on the pinball machine while Leo was sitting next to me watching- or being totally mesmerized by some Space Heroes. I sat upside down to watch with him.
"Space Heroes?" I asked and turned my head to him.
"Space Heroes." The turtle replied with a giant smile.
"This is a good one." He just nodded so I hung my arms by my head and continued to watch.
"Odette if you keep sitting like that you're going to get hurt." I looked up to see Donnie standing by my feet. I rolled my eyes and melted off of the couch. Donnie only laughed a little and walked away to get his gadgets ready for patrol. The show had already ended so I went to the kitchen and grabbed some pizza.
The counter was too
cold to sit on but I didn't care. Casey walked into the kitchen and sat down. I looked at the clock... 9:52pm... it's almost time for patrol. The turtle brothers gathered by the entrance.
"Shouldn't you be going now, Case?" He jumped up "Oh, shit, yeah. Lost track of time, thanks sis."
I followed him to meet the others.
" so... you guys are leaving me?" Using puppy eyes I looked at them all except for Raph who was facing the other way.
"You know we have to." Donnie said with a bit of sympathy.
Mikey grabbed me and faced the guys " Aw come on dudes! Just look at her face! Can't we take her? Just tonight?!"
"No, Mikey" Leo and Raph said simultaneously.
Mikey let go of me saying "sorry little Jones."
"We'll be back when you wake up. Alright, princess?" Raph asked.
"Alright... bye, guys!"
Casey patted my head and I watched everyone rush out and over the turnstiles, waving goodbye.
I think it's time to sleep.
