Chapter One- The Crash

Sam Furren
The plane was going fast, but don't ask me how fast it was going. I wouldn't know that stuff. If you wanted to know that then you should ask Artie. I was sitting next to Riley. She was an old friend of mine and my neighbor. If you had asked me a few years ago who I liked, I would have said her. Now, she was replaced by another girl though, the problem was that she was a bit of a brat.

I looked outside at the sky and the clouds. Our class was on our way to Hawaii on a 2 week trip. It was a present for good behavior and the best grades our school had had in years. I couldn't wait to get there so I could toss my football around. I wasn't on a football team but I was one of the best quarterbacks at my school and was always a captain when my friends and I picked teams outside.

"Yes, I finally best that stupid boss!" Adam Gartley said. He was in the seat in front of me and, as usual, had his video game in hand. We used to be friends but lately we have just kind of drifted apart. We really weren't into the same things anymore so when we were together it was usually very awkward.

Another one of my old friends was Lance Jont. He was on the plane too, but you would have never noticed him because he sat in the back behind everyone else. After sixth grade, Lance started to hang alone and worked on his survival skills. I didn't talk to him much and when I did, it usually ended in an argument.

The plane lurched and I almost fell out of my seat. Everyone was talking and looking around. I wondered what had happened but I didn't worry too much because I knew that the pilot knew what he was doing.

Lance Jont
So the plane lurched, whatever. These guys knew nothing about planes and how they worked. My dad was in the military. He flew planes and even let me ride in one. He taught me how to fly a plane and how a plane works. The plane wasn't the problem here, I could tell. The problem was the pilot. I had seen him before takeoff and he had been shaking. It seemed like he was nervous or something, but I hadn't really been bothered by it until now.

The plane seemed to be going smoothly now so the pilot must have gotten back under control. If the pilot did lose control and we did fall we wouldn't have much of a chance of survival. Even if we landed in the water, the chances that we would all survive were slim at best. If I survived, I would have the best chance of staying alive. I was trained by my dad to survive in almost any environment and can make weapons and tools out of sticks and stones.

Also, if anyone asks or says that I ditched Sam, their dead wrong. He ditched me and the rest of our friends. With him gone, no one stayed in touch and I ended up alone and with only my survival skills to hone. If our group of friends had stayed together, it would have been different. Now, I don't talk to Sam, Sam doesn't talk to Adam, Adam doesn't talk to Mikey, and Mikey doesn't talk to me. It's better that way though, we can all do what we want and live our lives.

Then, the plane lurched again.

When the plane lurched again I nearly screamed! I had been forced to come on this public plane with the rest of the class because my dad was using the private jet. If only dad didn't have to London to celebrate the opening of his 100th store. I really didn't even know why I had to go to public school, all the kids are poor and don't even have a million dollars.

Anyway, when the plane lurched I was thrown into my seat. Beside me was my best friend, and only other rich person at school, Dylan Blanks. Dylan was the kind of girl that made every other girl feel inferior. She was smart and pretty and rich. I was jealous of her, even if she was my best friend.

I was really upset about the plane issues. I mean, if we crashed it could do some serious damage to my face. I don't know if I would even want to live after an incident like that.
