Zachary's POV
3:24pm, Columbus Ohio
Auto Parts"I'm proud of you" Danny said as he put his hand on my shoulder. Danny was my grandpa who just recently gave me a chance to work at his company, Auto Parts. I sent him a confident smile. I felt proud of myself as well. I was down in a really dark place due to following the wrong people where all I did was steal things, vandalize buildings, and smoke a whole pack of cigarettes in a minute. I've improved a lot. I haven't stole anything, I didn't vandalize anymore, and I had stopped smoking as much cigarettes. My old friends who encouraged my behavior were removed from my life and I had gotten my own apartment after graduating high school and moved away from my abusive drug addict father. "How's your mother doing by the way?" Danny asked and snapped me back into reality. Suddenly anger filled my body as I sighed and frustration. "She is still with that piece of shit. I've tried to get her to leave but she claims that she still loves him." I said as my voice laced with disgust. "I know it's frustrating" Danny said giving me apologetic eyes. "It's so easy to fall in love but so hard to fall out of it. She'll eventually realize he's not the one." I nodded and let out another frustrated sigh as I ran my hand through my hair, "I sure hope so."
After work I went home and did my daily run around the block. I used to hate exercise and sweat but now that I've been working I seem to feel a lot better being active. After my run I walked inside my apartment and pulled out a bottle of ice cold water and chugged it. My phone started to go off in the distance and I quickly grabbed it and answered it. "Is this Zachary Conner?" The masculine voice asked on the other end of the phone. Confusion washed over my face. "Yeah, that's me. Who's this?" I asked. "I'm doctor Elliot, we have your mother here in the hospital." He said. My eyes nearly popped out of my head as I quickly grabbed my jacket, slipped on shoes, and simultaneously asking, "what's wrong? Is she okay?!" Panic was the only emotion I could feel. "She'll be fine but was hurt pretty badly. We were hoping you could come down and talk to us." Elliot said. "Yeah, of course. I'll be there soon" I quickly said before hanging up and getting into my car.
Once I got to the hospital I made a quick phone call. Danny was my mother's father and it felt wrong not informing him of the situation. Danny picked up the phone with his usual happy voice, "Hello Zach" I quickly replied with a hello before quickly saying, "mom is in the hospital. I don't know what happened yet but I'm at the hospital right now. She's okay but apparently got injured pretty badly. I guarantee it was that bastard-" I quickly ranted. "Hey hey, calm down. I'll figure this out. Just go see your mother." He said. I let out a breathe and hung up as I walked into the hospital.
"Zachary Conner" I said to the lady. "Room 321" she smiled and handed me a scan card. Once I found room 321 I entered and saw my mom crying with police officers around her. "Mother?" I asked as I walked up to her. "Zach, baby!" She smiled giving me a quick hug and wincing in pain. "Was it him again? Did he do this to you?" I asked. "Y-yes" she sniffled. "Have you happen to have seen your father recently?" One of the police officers asked. "No, I haven't. I've avoided him ever since I graduated college. Haven't seen him since." I honestly answered. "You will find him right? You'll lock him up, right?" I asked in desperation. "We will try our best" He responded before they left. "Please leave him-" I begged before she interrupted me with her usual response, "Zach, please don't. I can't. I love-" she started but let a loud frustrated groan. "Mother love isn't suppose to hurt." I tried to reason but she just gave me a hurt expression as I talked. "Zach, I would like to be alone right now to think. I'll consider it. But please do visit me tomorrow." She said sweetly. I nodded before getting up and leaving. She didn't deserve to end up in this situation. I believed that she could turn her life around just like I did.
So I decided to get her some flowers with a special note on them and there were no better places to get flowers than Mary's Gold.
Addilyn's POV
6:40pm, Columbus Ohio
Mary's Gold"Chica, ¡es hora de cierre!" (translated: Girl, it's closing time!) Sobrina, my friend, shouted as I sat on the counter drawing flowers like I did when I was younger. "¡Tenemos viente minutos!" (translated: We have twenty minutes) I shouted back as I continued to shade the flower.
Sobrina came from Spain and still isn't very comfortable with speaking English so I spent a lot of time learning Spanish to make her feel more comfortable. Sobrina has become extremely close to my family and she joined us in our family business. My parents even learned some Spanish and we treat her like she is family.
I was in the middle of coloring my flower when I heard a cough causing me to jump in fright. "Shit, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you" the voice was deep and soothing. I quickly got off the counter and awkwardly fixed my hair before looking up at the costumer. He had fluffy black hair and green eyes. "Oh um yeah, it's fine, what would you like?" I said nervously feeling embarrassed. He gave me a reassuring smile. "I would like some flowers for my mother." He said. "What kind?" He looked taken back by the question. "I'm not much of a flower man so you choose. If it helps, my moms favorite color is purple." He replied. "Alright, I'll be right back" I said before walking into the flower room and picked out a bouquet of Gloxinia flowers. I wrapped a string around it with a card. "Here they are, would you like a message on them?" I asked. "Yes, could you write down it's easy to fall but even easier to get back up?" He asked and it honestly made my heart flutter for a short second. He seemed to really care about his mother and it was adorable. I smiled as I wrote down the quote and handed him the flowers. "That would be ten dollars" I said. He handed me the money. "What's your name?" He asked. "Addilyn" I replied smiling. "Well thank you so much Addilyn" He replied with a soft smile before waving and leaving.
I turned around with a smile until I'm face to face with a smirking Sobrina. "¡mi amor, no deje!" (translated: my love, do not leave!) She teases as she made a dramatic movement as if she was reaching for the door. I rolled my eyes as I pushed her away. "Callar, él no es mi amor" (translated: Shut up, he is not my love) I laughed as I started to close the store.
