Panic of the Mist

You knew it was there.

From the moment they left quarantine.

When they returned with solemn faces.

When the exterior of Base started to creak.

You could see its silent whisper work their way through the people until they silently succumbed to its voiceless cry as it gripped their minds and hearts with iron hands.

Panic.

Now, panic and fear are two different things. Fear is subjective to different people. It can be cured, though long and tiresome it may be. Panic spreads like a wildfire. It may start with fear, but fear is only the match that ignites the flame.
But a fire can only burn for so long on one tree.
That's just the thing though.
There is never just one person like a tree in a desert, they are always found in forests.
That's how it spreads.
And oh, has it spread through the small colony.

"Another one?"
"Another one."
Two of the five doctors on the mission were sitting in the newly blocked off quarantine hallway. With the quarantine room being unclean, they had to make do. The disease was spreading nearly as fast as the panic was. Two days had passed, and the newly infected were cautiously waiting to see if they were to suffer the same fate as the German boy.
The procedure was short, since they don't have much to go off of.
If one shows any signs of being infected, they were to go through a short examination and then kept in quarinitine to have tests done.
That's all they had so far.

Eva sat in the examination room.
Since she did not function like a normal human, they had decided to test the vaccine on her.

The room was dark.

She had her arms strapped down to a table.

A bright light turned on above her, revealing two doctors near her, and four holding emergency medical help if something were to go wrong.

Her upper left arm and right forearm met the coldness of the sterilizing cloth.

First was the IV.

Then came the shot carrying the experimental vaccination.

Never before had she been in such excruciating pain.

=====================
Author note- yes I know this is an especially short chapter, but I've been working on the physics on Xzenofratz and the properties of the disease to make it as realistic as possible.
Thanks for reading!
