Chapter 4
June 17, 2001
The next morning, when Echo woke up, she went downstairs for breakfast. She saw her mom and little brother. Echo looked at the clock and frowned.
"It's past eleven. Angel usually wakes up before then." Echo eyed her mom, and Gen smiled.
"Angel went out with Devon. He came over to pick her up and they'll be gone for the rest of the day. I have to go to work, so you and little man, here, will have the house to yourselves for a few hours until dad comes home. You think you can manage?" she asked her daughter.
Echo looked at her grinning brother and nodded. "Yeah" her mom smiled at her and nodded.
"Good. If anything goes out of ordinary, or absurd of some type, you know to call me." Gen looked at her two children and hugged them. "Be safe" she smiled.
She walked to the door and both of them followed in her feet. Genevieve suddenly whipped around and eyed the two. "And absolutely NO playing in that Lake. Understood?" Echo looked at her brother.
"Yes, mom" Jeremy said reluctantly. "I don't understand what the worry is for. It's a dead Lake."
"I know, honey, but I don't want you in there when I'm not home, ok?" she asked, and Jeremy nodded once more. "Good." She looked at Echo again. "And behave!"
"Ok mom!" both growled, they all laughed and waved Gen off.
When the car drove away, Jeremy and Echo looked at each other excitedly.
"What're we gonna do, Echo?" he whispered scandalously. Echo shrugged, unconcerned.
"Something wicked?" she suggested, and Jeremy's eyes widened, then he laughed. Echo smiled.
"How about we play football in the backyard?" she asked. Jeremy nodded vigorously.
An hour later, Jeremy and Echo breathed heavily on the grass looking up at the clear blue sky; giggling effortlessly.
"That's six!" Jeremy cried out.
"You mean six zero's. I didn't see a bird!" Echo laughed.
"But they were there!" he protested so seriously that Echo sat up and raised a brow at him. But he broke into girly giggles.
"C'mon, how about a few more throws and then we head back inside for lunch?" Echo offered, Jeremy put a finger to his chin and thought solemnly before nodding.
Echo started throwing and then Jeremy. A pattern set as they threw back and forth.
"C'mon Jer! You throw like a baby!" She chuckled, as he glared.
"Well you throw like a girl!" he shot back and Echo laughed louder.
"I am a girl!" Echo grinned, she threw the football at Jeremy but he made it whip pass him . . . into the Lake.

How is it so far? Not much of a scary story teller but I hope I'm not a total disappointment. :D
