Chapter 6

"C'mon Echo!" the male voice urged. Pushing on her chest. "Breathe! Breathe dammit!"

"Echo!" a younger boy sobbed. Suddenly sirens went off and there were numerous voices. "No! Echo!"

"Quickly. We have to perform CPR" a feminine voice instructed and they pushed on her chest. No response.

"No pulse." The female said again. "Try again!"

They pushed a few more times, trying to get the water out of her lungs. Still there came no response. Jeremy's cries were heard throughout the silence as they tried to revive Echo.

"ECHO!" he screamed. They gave her one final push.

Finally, Echo coughed and water came out. The female smiled faintly. "Hurry and check her for any disorders, any hyperventilating? Dan, get her to the hospital"

Jeremy and Seth arrived at the hospital right behind the ambulance. A few minutes later Gen and Grant came up to the counter, identifying themselves as the parents of the girl.

"She seems to be fine, most of the water got out of her lungs." The doctor - Dr. Lyon - informed them as they traveled to Echo's room. "I have to say, if it wasn't for that young man that pulled her out, she wouldn't be here . . . alive" the doctor left them to enter.

Gen was the first to see Echo - who was still sleeping. "Oh my baby!" Gen sobbed.

Jeremy ran into his father's arms and cried. "It was all my fault daddy. She went to go and get your football. I'm sorry I took your ball daddy" Jeremy wailed.

"Shh, it's ok. Your sister is fine, she's just sleeping." Grant assured his son.

"Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Maine, I'm sorry we have to meet like this, sir" Seth said to Grant, but Grant shook his head and pulled Seth to him.

"You saved my baby girl," he whispered hoarsely. "I owe you my life."

Grant held him at arm's length and they shared a moment of understood silence.
