Avni stepped up another step, the warm glow of the candles making her look even more beautiful, her eyes shone with happiness, her face glowing with joy, stretching out her hand she placed it in Neil's and lifted her dress, stepping up the final step

"You take my breath away" Neil whispered fondly against her skin, peppering kisses across her shoulder, she threw her head back, closing her eyes she sighed in content, she stood up taller, cupping his cheek she ran her thumb across his lips

"I love you so much" her eyes glistened with tears
Neil smiled, kissing her lips softly he smiled against her mouth "I didnt know what love was until I met you"
She blushed a dark red "promise me you wont break my heart" her eyes searching his for any sign he would, even a shred of doubt.

"I promise"

Neil's POV-

I watched Avni asleep on her bed, a single bed, she had opted to move when she had found out about my deceit. She let out a soft sigh and turned onto her back.
I couldnt help but step closer, it was the early hours of the morning, the small ray of sun lighting up her face

Grasping her hand in mine I pressed a kiss to her open palm, so many promises I had made to her, vows I had took, yet I couldnt keep any of them. The innocence in her eyes, I had taken that away, she always trusted me, yet I could never keep her faith, I would never forget the heartbroken look on her face when she found out the truth, I would never be worthy of her

"Tell me this is a lie, a mistake" her voice had yet to crack, she let go of my phone, dropping it to the floor
"Avni I"
She held up her hand, walking towards the table, she rested her hand on it and put her head down
"Dont, dont I can't even look at you right now"

She faltered and collapsed onto the chair, Neil ran forward, sitting beside her he took his hand in hers
"It was a mistake, please Avni"
His heart broke at the lost look in her eyes, a lone tear made its way down her cheek
"I love you, I thought you loved me to" she whispered, her voice cracking

She stood up, walking to the kitchen she wiped her tears, grabbing a glass of water she finally looked back at Neil
"What did she have that I dont, whats so wrong in me that" she stopped shaking her head
He walked over cupping her cheeks "Nothing, you're the best thing that ever happened to me"
"Then why" she let out a guttural sob

Overcome with emotion Neil pressed his lips to hers, she tried to shove him away, his lips against hers weakening her resolve she melted into the kiss, eventually coming to her senses she shoved him back, slapping him across the face, "If I was destined for this kind of love then I would rather have never loved at all"

"Avni, please we can fix this" Neil begged
"You know what Neil, this isnt a storybook romance, things like this dont just get brushed under the carpet, you had a choice and you chose this, dont you dare try and tell me this can be fixed now, you chose, and your choice wasn't me"

Avni's POV-

I awoke to soft sobs near me, opening my eyes I sat up, "Neil are you"
He pulled me to him, holding me tightly to him he sobbed
"God Avni I cant lose you" he whispered into my hair, I left my hands by my side, unable to move them, I felt numb, so not used to this closeness, it made me feel sick

I pulled away, watching him sniff and wipe his eyes "Just one night, can I just"
He gulped, scratching the back of his neck he looked away then looked me straight in the eye
"Can I just hold you Avni, for just tonight can I pretend you're mine and that we are okay"
I nodded, unsure of what else to do

I felt him lie down next to me, lifting me up he led me on his chest, wrapping his arms around my waist, he kissed my hair
I could hear his shaky breaths as he cried quietly
Lifting my hand I placed it on his arm, the small movement making him cry even more
"I love you Avni"

But time had taught me words meant nothing, his actions had not proved his love, I closed my eyes and slept soundly in his arms, how close we were yet how far apart

Neil's POV-

The next evening I watched as Avni walked downstairs, sitting on the sofa she tried to slip her shoes on, her dress too tight around her knees she huffed
I lowered myself, slipping on her shoe, I made sure I took my time doing the shoe strap up, my fingers tracing the veins on her feet, a lump in my throat at the thought of her with another man

I finally looked up at her and she offered me a soft smile, standing up she walked to the kitchen, twisting her ring on her finger
"What are you doing" I asked, scandalized that she was trying to remove her ring.
"Well I wont get any attention with it on, but I can't get it" she bit into her lip in clear frustration

I grabbed her wrist, grabbing the soap I rubbed it against her ring finger and slid the ring off, placing it in her hand
"Maybe it wasnt meant to come off" I offered, in the hopes she would agree but she remained silent and placed the ring on the side
"Who are you going to meet"

"Isn't it better you don't know, wont that make it worse"
I nodded, she was right, if I knew who would have her tonight I would kill them
She slipped her coat on and rolled her lips, "well I guess im ready, unless you have anything to say"
I felt as if she was giving me a chance to stop this, but I wanted to be fair, so I shook my head

I watched as she walked away, then as if out of my control, I grabbed her, spinning her back around I pressed my lips against hers, making her gasp
Resting my forehead against hers, I tugged her bottom lip down with my thumb
"Remember me, come home Avni"

She closed her eyes for a second then pulled away, my hand still holding hers
She slowly took her hand away from my grasp, my vision blurry from the unshed tears, she let out a heavy breath then walked out of the door, the slam of the door making me jump, reality hitting me hard, she was gone, my arms empty for she would be in another mans arms tonight

"Goodbye Avni" I whispered, falling to my knees, I allowed the pain to consume me as my heart broke

I apologise if this wasnt what you wanted from this story, but I feel making Neil's cheating a misunderstanding will take away the emotion behind the story as it was initially meant to be about learning how to love again
