Chapter Five - The Pimple

"How's school" mum asks while chomping away at her lettuce and cheese bun.

I can't be bothered to describe my classes so I just say "Good, how's work?"

She starts blabbering away about these cute little kids at the day care and how they made a thank you card for her. They also spelt her name wrong which made her laugh. Half listening, half in my own world I nod along.

After tea I moan about doing the dishes, as always but this time actually manage a success. But now instead I have to do homework, great *note sarcasm*. I really can't be stuffed but I go into the computer room any way and start typing up my essay. I get bored quickly and start looking around the room for inspiration. I see a book lying half open on the desk behind me. I reach over to it and pull it towards me. I read the first page not even knowing who's book it is. As I read on its explain about genetics, how they can be changed and evolution. I shut the book and turn it over to read the back then mum walks in.

"It's time for bed honey"

Surprised how fast the time went I shut down the computer and leave the book were I found it, careful to turn it to the page it was on so I don't get in trouble. I turn off the light and trudge up to my room.

In bed I can't sleep. I can't stop thinking about the book. What was the book even for and what did Super Unnatural even mean?

Finally sleep comes but seconds later I hear a 'clink clink clink'. I get out of bed and go to the window. "Clink, clink" I pull it open and stare down squinting my eyes to see who it is.

"Hey couldn't sleep. I couldn't stop thinking about you."

"I couldn't sleep either" I half lie down to Zack. I'm kind of disappointed he's here because I'm tired and would like to sleep. But once I creep down stairs and open the door it feels good to have someone to talk to.

I take him up to my room and shut the door behind us. He looks around examining my room I don't know what he's looking for but I realize he's found it. He walks over, picks up my cell phone and passes it to me. I must have been asleep for longer than a minute as I have 3 texts and 2 missed calls.

"Didn't hear my phone go off" I explain.

"I had to come over I just couldn't sleep with all that's happened."

"I'm glad you came."

We talk nearly all night just about what I can do and what I may be capable of. He doesn't leave till about 2 in the morning.

Mum and dad forget to wake me up so I'm late to school the next morning. In home economics I'm sitting beside Zack while the teachers explaining the 40 hour famine to us.

"Everyone has to bake something, muffins, cakes or biscuits."

The whole class groans as she announces this.

"You don't have to bake a batch each; you can do it in pairs if you want."

All the girls look to their best friends and all the boys do the same as me and Zack stare at each other. "Who's house" I ask.

"Mine" he replies more excited then he should be.

I'm so glad at lunch time it seems as if everyone had forgotten about the train wreck already. I don't know what would have happened or what people would have done if the found out. I so thankful to Mr Hunter.
