Then turbulence plays its part. A sudden jolt sends me and Jeff flying out the door. All I can here is a high pitch screech. I stop when I realize it's me screaming.

I try to look up at dad but by the time my head bends around the parachute explodes up covering my vision. I'm shaking with fear as we peacefully land on the ground.

"How was it?" mum asks running up.

"Freaky" is all I can manage to get out of my chattering teeth.

I unhook from Jeff and look at the endless fields surrounding us. Sun shining down on sheep nibbling on their morning grass. Some hiding under trees for shade.

"Want another go?" dad asks walking over from the plane.

"Come on Vi let's do it again" Jeff insists.

"Nah" I say certain that I do not want to do it again.

We pull into our drive. Jamie's still disappointed he didn't get a go but I was happy I didn't go again.

"So where for lunch?" mum asks.

"Do they have a mango here?"

"Yep let's go"

"Can I have a shower first?"

"Sure. Well leave at twelve so you have 45 minutes."

I go upstairs and open the shower door. Turning it on so it can warm up before I hop in. I put my hand under the water after stripping my clothes off to feel the temperature it burns but feels good. And it's nice to burn of the smell of Jeff (ugh). I tilt my head back and let the water run down my face. The pressure here is a lot stronger then at our old house. I used to just stand there as water dribbled down my back. Nothing more than a dribble.

I get out fluffing my hair with my towel. I walk back to my room with the towel rapped around me. In my room I look out the window to see brad and a few others playing soccer. He looks over and I wave forgetting the towel wrapped around me almost dropping it.

Embarrassed I pull the curtains and pick the clothes out of my draw. Brad probably thinks I don't were clothes. Both times he's seen me I've been in pyjamas and just a towel. Once I've pulled my clothes on I open the curtain and walk down stairs.

"Where are you going?" mum says surprised as I open the door.

"Just going to say hi to Brad"

"Kay K. Don't be long."

"Hey fancy a game?" Brad asks pointing to his friend kicking the ball around.

"Thanks, but I can't were going out for my birthday lunch."

"Ohh. Happy birthday then. I'll see you later"

We end up going to Burger King, just cause its easier. But I just want today to be over so I can go on my first date (eek). We have this family tradition were on our birthdays we get $50 to spend but we have to spend it that day. I remember when I was about 7 I was so excited to go shopping with my 50 and the first shop we went to I was done. I spent it straight away. I brought a hair brush for $9.99 and a Furby for $39.99. I remember thinking that that was the best birthday ever. As soon as we got into the car I ripped open the Furby packaging and turned it on. Nothing happened. I switched the button back and forth trying to get it to work. Still nothing. I burst out in tears, snot dribbling down my face. Tears soaking my cheeks. Mum turns around from the front seat

"What's wrong" she whispers sympathetically.

"It not work!" I huffed chucking it at her and slumping over in my seat. And of cores my screaming and crying woke up Jamie and he's crying now too.

"We'll fix it when we get home ok. Just calm down and give your brother a hug you've upset him."

Great family memories I think sarcastically. We pull up to the malls main car park its quite busy but there's still heaps of parks around the back.

"Do you want us to come with you or do you want to do personal shopping?" dad asks.

"You guys can go do what you want I'm going to go in a few clothes shops." They walk off towards the supermarket as I turn to go to jay jays.

"Hey, Happy Birthday!" Zack says as I walk in.

"Hey what do you recommend?" I question giving a twirl.

"What are you looking for? Top, dress, pants?"

"Anything I have $50 birthday spending money."

"How about this" he says grabbing the sluttiest bikini of the shelf behind him explaining "The bright pink suits anything and is a great simple piece for shopping or going out anywhere" we both laugh.

"What about sun glasses" I say "Mine broke in my luggage on the way here"

"Ok" we walk over to the glasses stand and I start trying on the weird and wacky colourful ones. After about 50 strange pairs of glasses I finally find a pair I like. That's $20 gone 30 to go.

"I better catch up with the fam. I'll see you tomorrow"

"I'll pick you up at 6." I walk out waving. Perfect timing mum, dad and Jamie are just walking out of packn'save.

"Where next?" mum asks.

"How about Kmart?"

After not finding anything else I want there either I buy an iTunes card with the left over money. So we head home.

For tea we go to the verdict, it's a bar type place. The menu only has five things but they all sound delicious. After careful decision I decide on the hummus filled chicken raped in bacon with a side of salad and BBQ flavored wedges.

"How's your day been, birthday girl" Mum asks in between mouthfuls of steak with mushroom, red onion and wine sauce.

"Great." I say

"I love my gold earrings" I pull my hair behind my ear to show them.

When I was little we used to go out for tea every birthday. And we got to choose where we went, with limits (not an ice cream parlour). But one time Jamie chose valentines, a buffet restaurant. He was only seven at the time and was going through that weird food stage. For tea dad made us have veges but said we could have whatever we want for dessert. Of course I came back with cake, ice cream and chocolate mousse. Jamie sits down beside me on his plate is a handful of walnuts, 6 black olives and 3 triangles of butter. Dad had to go back on his promise of having whatever for desert, he took away 2 of the butter triangles. Saying since it's his birthday he can have one.

"Are you going to have a party with all your friends around?" dad asks waking me from my day dream.

"Naa I haven't really had enough time to get to know many people that I could invite. But me and Eliza are going to the movies."

"We can pay for the movies if you like"

"Yeah thanks. So why did we move" I think out loud.

Dad gives a quick jump in realization of what I've just said he looks down at his plate while talking "Work" he stubbornly replies but I can hear the guilt in his voice to know he's lying.

"They needed you here... in New Zealand? Why did you take it? You didn't have to it would have been optional." I say getting slightly aggressive.

"I had to, if only you knew it was to keep us safe," he whispers only just loud enough for me to hear.

"Just leave it alone" mum says trying to calm the both of us.

"I just want to go home" I frown disappointed such a great day had to end like this.

"Ok I'll pay and meet you in the car" she hands me the keys and walks to the counter.

I meant home home, with all my friends. I think Jamie knew what I meant but also knew it wasn't an option.

We get home I rip off my dress and pull on my PJ's regretting bringing it all up. It's early but I jump into bed and pull the covers up to my chin hoping that tomorrow is a new day and that the anger will flush away. I fall to sleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.
