What if we rewrite the stars
Say you were made to be mine

"Maybe not now, but eventually you would." Anne argued.

Phillip sighed. "I feel as if we're going in circles here."

"Only because you aren't listening to reason." Anne sassed, crossing her arms across her chest.

"Reason?" Phillip asked in dismay. "I'm the one not listening to reason?"

"No, you're not." She stated. "You have the same argument for everything."

"Yes,"he agreed. "And that argument is love. Should it not conquer all?"

"Maybe it should but it doesn't."

"Maybe we can make it so. Together."

"Don't tempt me with such things." Anne stiffened and turned away from him. "It's just not possible."

"You keep saying that but it's only your opinion. Your not listening to mine." Phillip reasoned.

"A matter of possibility is not a matter of opinion."

"Maybe it could be," Phillip offered. "Maybe possibility can seem like something so far out of reach but it truly just depends on where you are standing."

"Your not making any sense."

"No, your not." Phillip paused he could feel himself getting angry and upset with where their conversation was headed.

"Just admit to me that you want to marry me." He said, barely above a whisper.

"I've told you a thousand times that I do love you and want to spend the rest of my life with you." Anne stated.

"But you won't."

"But I cant." She emphasized.

"Won't."

"Can't."

"Won't."

"No," she agreed. "I won't."

"Why not?" Phillip asked. "And I want the real reason."

She stared into his shiny blue eyes once again, knowing that this might just be the last time she would ever do so.

"Because one day your going to find a real wife and a real house and a real family. One day your not going to want to fight anymore. You'll get tired of the life that I lead. One day you'll want to grow up."

Phillip shook his head. "No, I-"

"You won't?" Anne asked. "Because I assure you, you will."

Phillip disagreed with everything she said. He wouldn't never tire of her in any way. But at this point, he knew that he had lost. She was not going to say yes.

After a long pause Phillip spoke again. "Even if we can't be together, we can at least be friends,"

Anne shook her head. "we can be friends, Phillip. It's too hard."

He nodded in understanding. He felt exactly the same way but also the opposite at the same time. Yes, it wood be hard to see Anne grow up and marry a different man. But no, being able to see her even just as friends was better than not seeing her at all.

Never the less, he answered in agreement. "I guess your right."

He would do anything to make her happy.

"I guess I should go." Phillip nodded after another long pause.

Anne didn't say anything just nodded.

Phillip leaned into Anne, stepping so that here was only a inches between them. Anne let him come towards her not frightened or surprised.

Phillip pressed his lips to Anne temple and stepped back again.

The gesture was so safe, so sensitive.

"Goodbye, Anne."

And with that, he left.
