That Night

My favorite thing about the night was the darkness hid everything. It had the power to make your insecurities disappear. It was easier to be invisible, easier to fit in. The absolute best part was it allowed you to forget. I could forget who I was and everything that made my life a living hell. I could be anything in the night and that was exactly what I was going to do.Slipping out my window, I climbed down my tree. I couldn't take my parent's fighting anymore. I began walking with no destination in mind. I put my earbuds in and turned up Kids In The Dark to the loudest possible volume. I shook my head as I danced down the sidewalk, not paying attention to my surroundings. The next thing I knew I was on the ground. My earbuds fell out, and the music played through the air. "Nice song." A voice said awkwardly. I opened my eyes and realized there was a person on top of me. There was a skateboard off to the side, and I realized he must have fallen off his board when I danced into him, and we ended up like this. He got up and extended his hand. I took it and he pulled me up. "So, you like All Time Low?""Yeah. They're my favorite band." I smiled when I saw his jacket. He was wearing All Time Low's denim rose jacket, the one I knew so well from hours of staring at it online. "I'm Ryker." He spoke as he shoved his hands in his pockets nervously. "Carter." I smiled. "Um... Could I maybe buy you a coffee to make up for running you over?" He pulled his lip between his teeth as he awaited my response. "I'd love that."We went to Starbucks and talked for 2 hours. He was the most interesting person I had ever met. He was amazing! He loved all the same bands, movies, and books as me. The more time I spent with him, the more I fell in love with him. "If you could do anything in the world what would it be?" He asked. "Probably get a tattoo.""Why haven't you?""It's against my dad's rules. He'd kill me.""Do you always follow the rules?""Yes! I'm the kind of person who needs everyone to like them, so I can't give them a reason not to.""Do they get to see this you or do you just put on a show for them?""To be honest, you're the only one who has ever seen the real me." He frowned then said, "What if I took you to get a tattoo right now?" I thought for a moment, then nodded my head. "Okay."We took off for the tattoo parlor across the street and decided on matching tattoos. "You ready?" He asked as we sat in the chairs. "Ready." I smiled.

That Night was the best of my life.
