The Reason

I gave you everything
I gave you my heart, my soul
You said you had given me yours
But I figured out, later on
That was a lie
All your promises, all your words
Amounted to nothing
You are the false hope, the empty home
That I clung to in the darkness
And little did I know that you were only dragging me deeper
I know now
I know that you are the reason I am in this pit
You are the reason I cry myself to sleep every night
You are the reason I stand on the edge of the rooftop
And wonder what would happen if I jump
You are the reason I cannot live
For I cannot live without you
Despite the strength I thought I had
You were able to break me down to dust
I wish I'd never met you
But it's too late now

BTW this isn't written from personal experience, this is for one of my characters, don't go thinking this is about me!!! Also, this is just the rough draft, I might make it rhyme, but I feel like it's more like a letter than a poem.
