KURTS POV

I walked into the heavily occupied cafe and searched around until my eyes fell on a woman who was sitting in a windowless booth looking at me with those big blue captivating eyes. My heart started pounding in my chest as I neared her, finally taking a seat across from her. She still was as breathtaking today as she was 25 years ago. "Hello Sonia." I couldn't help but stare at her. She smiled weakly and quickly diverted her eyes to her hand holding what seem like tea. "Hi Kurt." She said without looking at me. I took a deep breath and sat back. It took so much control from my part not to reach over the table and grab her into my arms. "How are you?" I asked as the waitress came over and handed me a menu. "Can I get you something to drink for starters?" She smiled down at me. "Umm, I'll have a coffee please." She nodded and left us alone for the time being. When I turned to Sonia she was staring at me. Her eyes held a sadness and it seems that she was struggling for control herself. "Listen Kurt, I can't stay too long. Soon a couple of men will come in here to escort me home. I just wanted to let you know that..." Her eyes looked around the diner before she spoke again. "You, your son Samuel and anyone affiliated with you are in grave danger." My eyebrows furrowed as I looked at her worried face. Did she not know that I murdered her sister and brother in law? "How do you know this?" She sighed. "I overheard my husband talking to another man. I don't know who he is or what his name is, but they have something planned." Sonia cleared her throat. "I have to go, but I just wanted you to keep your eyes open and be alert." She was about to get up when I grabbed her hand. The electricity that flowed up my arm from our touch was proof that I still wasn't over her. She must have felt it too when she slowly sat down staring at our hands. Her eyes teared up, but she didn't allow for her tears to fall. "I miss you." I confessed as she looked at me. "I miss you too Kurt." She barely whispered, but I heard her. My thumb made soft circles on her hand, but suddenly stopped when I saw the bruise on her wrist. "What happened?" I asked as I examined her wrist. She pulled her hand out of my soft grip quickly covering her bruise with her sleeve. "He hits you doesn't he?" My jaw clenched. "I will never understand why your parents didn't allow you to marry me. I would never hurt you." Sonia closed her eyes. "There's many things that you don't understand and I don't have the time to explain it." The waitress came back with my coffee and decided not ask if we were ready to order. She only walked away. "Please Sonia. Don't leave." I pleaded grabbing her hand again. "I can't stay." She whispered softly, her voice cracking. "Please gorgeous.." She removed her hand from my own and stood up. "I'm sorry Kurt, but I must go." As she was about to take her next step, two men came into the diner. Without looking back, Sonia walked straight to the two men whom then followed her outside. I got up and watched through one of the cafe's large windows as one of the men opened the back door of the car for her. I could tell that she thanked him before getting into the car. The other man had already sat in the driver's seat and waited for the second man to sit in the passenger's seat then drive away. This was the second time that I had to watch the love of my life walk out of my life again.

25 YEARS AGO...SONIA'S POV

"Pero papa, yo estoy enarmorada de Kurt. Nosotros nos quedemos casar." (But father, I'm in love with Kurt. We want to get married). "Yo prohibir que tu lo vez. Ese desgraciado no es bueno para ti!" (I prohibit for you to see him. He's a disgrace and no good for you). "El me quieres! Tu no puedes hacer esto! Tu no..." (He loves me! You can't do this! You can't...) "CALLATE!" (Shut up!) Sonia's face was forcibly turned to the left when her father slapped her. "Tu te vaz a cacar con Julio Calderon este Sabado. Olvidarte de ese otro hombre. El no es de nuestro cultura. El es basura!" (You will marry Julio Calderon this Saturday. Forget about that other man. He is not from our culture. He is trash!) Sonia's father furiously stormed out of her room. Sonia slid to the floor as she cried. Her mother walked in closing the door softly. Sonia didn't even look up knowing that it wouldn't matter what she said to her mother. Her parents always sided with each other. "Mi hija bella. No llores por favor." (My beautiful daughter. Please don't cry) She kneeled on the floor next to a distraught daughter. "Mama, Papa is forcing me to marry Julio. I don't love him. I love Kurt and he loves me." Sonia's mother gently stroke her hair, then placing her hands gently on both sides of Sonia's face. "I know sweetheart, but we both know that once your father makes a decision, there is no going back. He had promised your hand in marriage to Julio long before you met Kurt. Your father is a man of his word. Business first, family second." She spoke in her Spanish accent carefully examined the handprint on Sonia's right cheek. "Come." She rose to her feet extending her hand out to Sonia to take it. Sonia took her mother's hand and followed her to her adjoining bathroom. Sonia leaned against the basin as her mother took a clean washcloth, wetting it with cold water and placing it on Sonia's cheek. "Mama." Sonia's words came out shakey. "Que mi hija?" (What my daughter). "Yo estoy embarazada con el bebe de Kurt." (I'm pregnant with Kurt's baby). "Sonia, how could you be so careless? Does Kurt know? Does your father know?" She whispered yelled. "I haven't had the chance to tell Kurt." She said. "Father doesn't know and I don't want him to know. He'll kill me." "How far long are you?" "Umm I'm not sure. Maybe a month." "Let's keep this our little secret. You will marry Julio and just make him believe that he's the father." "Mama do hear what you're saying?" "Yes I do! You can't tell your father that your pregnant with Kurt's baby cause like you said, he will kill you. And may kill him too. Or do you want to get an abortion?" Sonia gulped at the thought of aborting her baby and Kurt getting killed. "Ok mama." Sonia closed her eyes as tears spilled on their own accord.
