Ruby's POV
So literature was a complete horror. I sat next to the devil himself. This idiot, whose name I do not know by the way, got back at me in the most crude and unusual way.
He started off cussing for a good five minutes and this time I'm not exaggerating. He would occasionally make some snarky remark about how boring the class was or how damn good he thought a pineapple wagering a bikini would look or how I really need a nose job. Audibly!
I drag myself to the cafeteria. Third block was very long too. For some reason Alyssa didn't show up for calculus and that left me staring at Mr. Phillips throughout the class as he explained some equation in the board. I've never been so confused on my life like why do we always need to find x??
"Ruby!!"
"Alyssa where the heck have you been?" I make my way to where she's seated. She has on her the biggest smile.. you'd think she was advertising for a toothpaste company.
"I got in trouble and had to go to the principal's"
"Oh." This is so Alyssa. "Anyway something happened second block.."
"That can wait, see who just walked in.."
I spot shallow face aka hot rude guy walking into the cafeteria. He looks bored out of his mind and he's taking annoyingly slow strides like he's got all the time in the world. His eyes meet mine and suddenly a smirk is on his face. At this point half the school girls probably gasping for air and the other half wish he were a replacement for their boyfriends. I quickly turn and face Alyssa
".. that's the big news. He's Kane Andrews, the son of Rickard Andrews and the new kid in school."
"Who's Rickard Andrews?"
Alyssa literally spits her food out and glares at me. I can't help but roll my eyes. Sometimes she's so dramatic.
"Well who's that" I ask again, at the same time looking out for shallow face. He's just sat at the bench at the back and he's got his eyes fixed on what seems to be, but I hope it's not, our table. And the smirk, it hasn't disappeared. Yet.
"Sometimes I wonder how we're even friends Ruby"
" I wonder the same thing too" I mutter tucking my hair behind my ear. She probably didn't hear me or she chose to ignore me cause she goes right down to explaining who Rickard Andrews is. Turns out he's a very famous movie star who's won about five Oscars for his impeccable acting.
"Interesting" I shrug "so that guy Kane, is his son huh" I ask
"Yup"
"Hmm" I reply. She just looks at me for a second and goes back to her food.
"You were going to tell me about something?"
"Huh?" I steal a glance at shallow face and he's still staring
"Second block..." Alyssa inquires
"Oh. Uhm I ran into Kane over there"
"Really? You already got to meet him?"
"Well you could say that"
"What does that mean? "
I take my time explaining to her the events of second block and I try not to leave out any details. At this point my frustration has already gotten the best of me so I may or may not have called him names of animals in five world languages. When I'm done she doesn't say anything, she just stares at me.
"And to think I thought this fool was hot." I say rolling my eyes
"You think I'm hot princess?" I froze. Slowly I turned towards the source of the voice. Kane stood just a few inches away from me hands in his pocket and that lazy smirk playing in his lips, even in that moment I hate to admit he looked Divine. Yeah I know for someone I really dislike I make a lot of snarky comments about him. Last time I promise.
"You!" The only word I managed to utter. He ignores me and seats on our table and faces Alyssa
"Hi..."
"Alyssa"
"Yh hi Alyssa. I'm Kane" he says with a smile and yes you could say he had Alyssa fooled.
"Hi Kane nice to finally meet you" she replies
"Finally?" He looks at me for a second and his focus is back on Alyssa.
"Yeah. The whole school's talking about you" Alyssa says with a shy smile as she realizes that includes her too.
"They are huh, interesting" he turns towards me "Well I could say for sure you're right. I mean I did hear someone describe me as, hmm what was the word.. hot?"
"Uhm.. what... Who.. me?, .. uhm no.." I clear my throat in an attempt to stop stammering "I wasn't talking about you... Like you're not even that good looking not to talk of hot.. get over yourself"
To add to my embarrassment he laughs. Loud. Like I had just shown him a very funny meme. Finally he looks at me. "Sure princess" he says
Alyssa has a huge grin on her face. She's probably having the time of her life. What happened to her being on my side. I sigh.
Just then the bell goes off signalling the end of cafeteria break. The voices in my head are singing hallelujah on key G"Guess I'll see you around princess" Kane says with a wink as he Pats my shoulder. His touch lingers longer than needed. Stupid stupid hormones. Like I was just hating the guy few minutes ago. My eyes follow him out the cafeteria. I sigh. I'm not cut out for this .
"Well that was some intense stuff, huh Ruby" there's a sly grin on her face
"Shut up we have class." I say as I leave our table
As we move towards the exit I spot HER. Her gaze is ice cold and I shiver. She's got a smile on her face but her eyes holds so much hatred and despise. Those eyes are fixed on one person. Me. I turn as quickly as I can, I don't realize I'm holding my breath till I exit the cafeteria. She'd seen me. Probably with him. And she wants him, I can tell. She always does. Claire, once upon a Time my best friend, now the key to all my problems.
