Love Long Overdue

When I came to my head felt like it had been beaten with a two-by-four and my entire back ached like a kid had been tap dancing with cleats on it.

I opened my eyes and looked around the room without moving my head.

The plain white walls and white lighting told me I was not in a house nor was I still in the Rocket Headquarters.

I winced as I lifted my head enough to get a better look around the room and saw that I was in a hospital recovery ward.

My bed was one of several that lined the walls of the room, though I was the only one currently in residence.

I looked at my side as I realized my right hand was being held in something and saw Aurora asleep next to the bed with her head resting on the covers over my legs.

Her hands were holding mine as she slept, and I smiled in realization that she must have somehow gotten me to medical help after I passed out.

I turned to look as a pair of nurses walked into the room, and when they saw I was awake they quickly turned and started talking to one another at a rapid pace.

One of the nurses, a blond with sky blue eyes, ran back out through the door while the other, a brunette with grey eyes walked up and smiled down at me.

"Are we feeling better?"

Her tone was one of relief that I took to mean I was close to not making it through when I arrived at the hospital.

I nodded, "I'm feeling much better, thank you."

I looked over at the door again as a doctor walked in with a gleeful smile taking up most of the space on his face.

"You gave us quite a scare Connor." he said, his short black hair in stark contrast to his white uniform and ocean blue eyes.

"We thought you weren't going to make it for a while there, but somehow you pulled through."

He smiled at Aurora, who was just beginning to stir because of our voices, "Your Pokémon never gave up on you.

She insisted we keep trying to save you even when most of us thought it was hopeless.

You had a ruptured liver and a punctured lung when we got to you, and frankly I still have no idea how you survived."

Aurora had raised her head to look at the doctor in sleepy confusion, "What's with all of the chatter?

Did something happen while I was asleep?"

Her eyes fell on me and I smiled as they widened in shock.

"Hi sweetie." I said, only to get crushed in a fierce hug as she wrapped her arms around my neck and cried into my shoulder.

She pulled back just enough to look me in the eyes before pressing her lips to mine in a passionate kiss.

The nurse gasped as Aurora stayed against me for another few moments before the doctor cleared his throat to get our attention.

Aurora pulled back with a disappointed look on her face, though I noticed she had a naughty gleam in her eyes as she sat back on the chair next to the bed.

The doctor pinched the bridge of his nose before speaking, "Baring any unseen complications you'll be released in about three days.

We're going to keep you under watch just in case, but as long as nothing too strenuous happens," he cast a pointed glance at Aurora, "you should be god as new in about a week's time."
