It’s now lunch time. You’ve said goodbye to Michael as you walked off to your hour-long detention. It’s being held in the languages room and you slowly walk in, not seeing anyone inside. As you walked further into the room, you turn around to see someone sat at the desk at the back. It was Dan.
‘Oh, hey,’ you smiled awkwardly at him and your heart was racing. He looked up at you and instantly smiled. ‘Oh hey, it’s you, the ball passer.’ He leaned back in his chair, smirking at you. You didn’t know what to do, so you just awkwardly laughed. ‘You got detention too, huh?’ You nodded, sitting down at the desk in front of him. ‘I know we’ve never actually spoken before, but you don’t seem like the type to get a detention.’ He laughed, causing you to laugh along with him. ‘Calling me a nerd?’ You placed your bag on the floor, before facing him again. ‘No aha,’ he said smiling, ‘believe me, it’s a compliment. I’d rather not get a detention,’ he exhaled as he spoke before continuing. ‘I try not to get one, but here I am.’ He laughed and you smiled. ‘Aww,’ you smiled again, ‘I only got this one because I was 50 minutes late to the lesson’ you yawned slightly. You barely got any sleep the night before because you had been doing your homework last minute. ‘God, aha. Nice one!’ he smiled at you. ‘how about you?’ He paused for a few minutes to actually remember why he got detention in the first place. ‘Oh yeah, I had football practice so I skipped my last two lessons and left college early… yeah, teacher wasn’t too happy but if I didn’t go, I’d be off the team.’ You listened to what he was saying then smiled. ‘Well, some things are necessary.’ He giggled before introducing himself. ‘I’m Dan by the way!’ He held out his hand and you shook it gently. ‘Welcome to detention.’
A bald male teacher walks in wearing a suit and carrying a briefcase. He slams it down on the desk, causing you and Dan to both jump. ‘Who have we got today then?’ He looks up before continuing. ‘Ah, Lewis, hello again.’ Dan rolled his eyes. ‘And new meat? Well young lady, let’s not make it a habit. Phones please.’ Dan reaches in his pocket for his phone and you do the same. ‘Okay, no talking. Please do the work your teachers have set you.’ You look at the sheet in front of you to find a list of tasks from your English teacher and you sigh.
55 minutes had passed by and you let out a sigh of relief. ‘Okay, detention’s over, pass me your work, I’ll make sure your teachers get them.’ He grabbed them out of yours and Dan’s hands and storms out in a hurry. ‘Wow, he was…a treat.’ You laughed and Dan just smiled. ‘He’s an absolute idiot.’ He stood up and walked towards the front of the room, to the desk to get your phones. ‘Here’s your phone, darling.’ He hands it to you, looking at its cover as he did. ‘Like monkey’s huh?’ He smiled and you looked at your phone cases cartoon image of a monkey eating a banana. ‘Oh yeah,’ you giggled, ‘they’re cute.’ He nudged your arm gently before smiling at you. ‘I guess they are, I like Pigeons.’ He laughs and it doesn’t take long for you to join him. ‘Really?’ you both stopped laughing after a few minutes ‘they’re just cool, so believe me, I ain’t judging. Bet you think I’m the idiot now.’ You shook your head and he smiles at you. He stares at you, then suddenly reaches into his bag. ‘I nearly forgot… you know Brad? Brad Simpson?’ you nod then wait for him to continue. ‘He’s having a house party on Saturday. Come along if you want’ he smiled as he handed the leaflet to you. ‘You can bring your friend, Michael is it?’ he looked at you and you nodded in agreement ‘and your boyfriend’ you look at him with a confused look on your face.
‘You mean Ben? My best friend?’ You finally clicked to who he meant. Ben. Of course he meant Ben, because that’s who everyone assumed you were dating. You didn’t understand why everyone kept assuming though. Just because you two hang around a lot doesn’t mean you’re dating, right? You were more annoyed that Dan thought you had a boyfriend. ‘Sorry, my bad! Well, you can bring your two friends,’ He smiled as he walked towards the door. ‘Hope you can come!’ he walked out of the classroom and down the hallway. You blushed as he smiled at you. You could feel yourself being embarrassed. You hoped he didn’t guess that you liked him, which was probably virtually impossible because you had acted like an idiot. You grabbed your bag and quickly walked out of the room to see Michael standing there.
‘Did I just seen Dan Lewis leaving the detention room?’ He instantly asked before noticing the huge smile plastered across your face. ‘Oh my god, yes.’ You couldn’t stop smiling. ‘I nearly had a heart attack when I walked into the room and he was just sat there, but guess what? We’ve been invited to Brad Simpson’s house party!’ Michael couldn’t contain his excitement, he had been waiting to get asked for as long as he had known. ‘Seriously?! That’s all everyone’s been talking about.’ He squealed with excitement before realizing he didn’t have anything good to wear. ‘Oh god, we need to go shopping, I have nothing good to wear and I want to try to get a girlfriend.’ You thought for a few seconds before you realized you didn’t have anything to wear either. You looked at your phone, noticing you had a missed text from Ben saying ‘Where are you? Did you survive your detention? X’. Suddenly, you realized something. ‘I need to tell Ben!’ Michael looked shocked. He hadn’t realized that Ben had been invited too, but he was so happy he had. ‘Ben been invited too?’ You kept looking at your phone, but nodded so Michael knew that he had. ‘Can you believe that Dan thought Ben was my boyfriend?’ You burst out laughing and Michael looked at you. ‘Oh really?’ He smiled to himself before shaking his head as you obliviously looked at your phone. ‘Well come on then, lesson time.’ You both walked off down the corridor.
