Chapter 3: Traveling
June 1, 2009
“Make sure you stay safe”, my mom said half sobbing. It was 5:45 AM and Fiama just brought her car packed with all her stuff. “I will mom. Don’t worry”, I said in a calming voice.
“Do you have all your clothes?”
“Yes mom”
“Toothbrush?”
“Yep”
“Passport?”
“In my bag”
“What about-”
“Mom”, I said, “You don’t have anything to worry about.” My mom looked like she was ready to break down. I gave her a hug and she held on. When she finally let go, I asked her, "You want to help me with my stuff?" She smiled and agreed, happy that she had something to do. Together we packed all of my stuff in Fiama's car. We went to the back to get my bike.
I put on my jacket and sat down. "Wait", my mom said before I could push off into the streets. She ran into the house and came back seconds later. She held out something in her hand. I almost lost my balance.
"Dad's wedding ring?" I asked with a voice that was filled with a mixture of shock and sadness. She nodded. "But....But", I stammered, my eyes not leaving the ring, "This is all you have left of dad." My mom gave me a sad smile. "I have the memories", she said. She pushed the ring in to my hand. "Take it", she said. And I did. I then reached into my bag and took out a photo.
It was the photo of the three of us. I don't know how old I was. My dad was holding me and I was laughing my little baby laugh. My mom sat right next to dad and she looked like she fell in love all over again as she looked deep in to my dad's eyes. I handed the photo to my mom. Silent tears ran down her face. She gave me a hug. 'I love you", she said. "I love you to mom", i replied.
Fiama beeped her horn. I looked at my mom. "You're really growing up Nahrin", she said. I said exactly what she needed to hear. "But I will always be your little girl." I put on my helmet and I was on the streets.
"Bye mom", I yelled. She was in front of the house. She looked like she choked on her words and just waved.
I drove along Fiama. While still concentrating on the road, i thought to my self. I hatted the idea of my mom alone in that house. Suddenly, i realized that i may never come back. In the off chance i do get involved with Kira, I would probably be killed. I wish I have told mom about what I was doing. I wish she at least knew of my dangerous intention. I almost turned around.

"Just Show Him Your God-Dam Passport Already!"
The car in front of me was hesitant in showing his family's names and faces. I had lost my patience and yelled at the driver. I looked at Fiama who was in another lane. She had her arms crossed. She was having the same problem as me. Nobody really wanted to risk it. Showing the world both their face and name. Then again, maybe they shouldn't have crossed the border.
The driver finally showed the passports and drove off. I rolled ahead and handed the toll both guy my passport. He took it and waited. It took me some time to remember that the glass on my helmet was tinted. I lifted the glass and showed him my face. He soon handed my passport back and I took off.
Fiama was still on line behind me but we both agreed to meet at the first exit after we crossed the border. After sometime, I spotted the exit and left the highway. I parked my bike and went in to McDonald's. I ordered my food and waited. A couple of minutes after i sat down with my food, Fiama came through the door. I waved my hand to get her attention. She saw me and sat. "That", she said exhausted, "Was a long drive" "I know right", I said, "Are you going to order or what?" She sighed and got up. She may have been tired but she was starving.
We ate in silence and my mind wandered off. I ended up imaging a scenario where Pokemon was real and i was training on becoming the Pokemon master. "Hello?", Fiama asked snapping me back to reality. "Huh",I said stupidly. "You were smiling like an idiot", she said. "Oh", I said, "Sorry" She took a sip of her soda, still giving me a worried look. She finished eating and got up. "Well", she said, I'm going to take a nap in the car. Wake me up when your ready to get back on the road." "Sure thing", I said and she was gone.
I threw away my trash and decided to explore. "Excuse me", said a lady holding out fliers. She came up to me right when I got out of McDonald's. Clearly desperate to get anyone's attention. "Yes?", I asked. She handed me flier. "Make sure you support", she said and went to another guy who was walking by. I looked at the flier she gave me. It was titled "KIra's Kingdom". Half of me wanted to ball the thing up and throw it away. The other half wanted to read it now. I decided to put in my bag for later.
I went up to Fiama's car and knocked on the door. Nothing. "Wake up!", I yelled knocking harder. She stirred awake and got up. She opened the door. "Ready?', she asked sleepily. "After you get up and walk around", I said, "I really don't need you asleep at the wheel." She agreed and got out. She walked to the water fountain back inside while I guarded the car. While i was waiting for her, I got out the flier out of my bag.
"Kira's Kingdom", I murmured to myself. The flier was all about how Kira is god and how everybody should worship him. "Kira needs a face to kill", I thought to myself, recalling Kira versus L. "If a god was actually passing these judgments, it would be absurd if he needed a face to do it. This definitely isn't the work of a god."
"I'm back", Fiama said walking towards me. "Hey, whats that?" She pointed to the flier in my hands. I handed it to her. She read it and scowled. "They really can't talk about anything else can they", Fiama said."I guess not", I murmured, "Anyways, we should really get back on the road." She agreed. "Where's our next stop?", she asked. "The hotel.", I said. She looked confused. "That's still pretty far." "I know", I said, "But i think we can still make it."
Fiama didn't bother arguing and went inside her car. I put on my jacket and helmet and took off. Leather jacket, leather pants black boots, and biking gloves." I know i sound bad-ass, and look bad-ass, and, i admit, even feel bad-ass, but keep in mind that this morning, I fell flat on my face trying to put my socks on.
