Chapter 1: Party Hard, Fight Hard
June 25, 2009
The fire crackers went off.
We all cheered.
High School ended and now my best friend had finally turned 18.
It was midnight.
"Excuse me", I said grunting. Damn this party was huge.
I finally made it to her and gave her a huge hug. "Congrats!", I shouted over the music,"You're finally 18. What are you gonna do now?" She smiled, "I don't know. You think it's about time we finally do what we've been planning to do Nahrin?" I laughed, "Fiama, you really think that's a good idea? He lives in Japan, remember?" She simply answered, "Kira can kill world wide."
Kira. A so called god. I was asked many times by family and friends if i support him. I never answered. Truth was, I didn't know my self. I talked this over with Fiama before. Like me, she wasn't so sure that killing killers would get rid of criminals. But, Kira made the world a peaceful place for those who are kind. People can calmly go about their day. They knew that they didn't have to worry about being raped, or kidnapped, or robbed. They knew that nobody in their right mind would commit a crime. But secretly, we were all scared. To Kira, second chances don't exist. If you got drunk and ended up doing something you weren't suppose to, you'll live the rest of your short life wondering when Kira will determine you faith. The internet isn't what it use to be. People are scared to go on social media. All Kira needs to kill you is your name and face, sometimes just a face. Nobody wants to give away their personal information and make it easier for Kira to find them. Those who do use social media can't talk about anything other than Kira. Little kids were taught that crimes and going against Kira would lead to death. Either way, weather Kira is good or bad, god or demon, he changed the world.
"True", I said, "But instead of of Japan, lets go to New York." Fiama looked confused,"We've been planning this ever since." Fiama got mad. "Is it your parents?", she said raising her voice. Its been our dream to travel the world but ever since Kira appeared, there seemed to be a pull from Japan. She continued ranting,"Your going to turn 19 in December. Freaking 19! Can't they just-" "Ill tell you later", i said cutting her off gesturing with my eyes toward two guys who were staring at us.
"So...", said one of the guys approaching Fiama," You're legal to hangout with any age now" It took every bit of strength in my body to not slam my fist down on his face. Seeing the way he empathized the word hangout meant that he wanted to "get in bed" I've been kicked out of a lot of places, the library, theaters, and even the house for the elderly. Sometimes, my emotions get the best of me. Still, i wasn't going to get kicked out of my own friends party.
"How 'bout you", said the other guy looking at me, "You look alright" he said smiling and eyeballing me. Don't Kill. Don't Kill. "She looks like she's already legal", said his friend. smirking. Then i saw him tap Fiama's rear end and i lost it.
"GET OFF OF ME!!!", I yelled to the people trying to pull me off. I had flown at the guy and gave him a black eye. I guess that's all i would have done if he hadn't tried to punch me back. Then his idiot friend got involved. By the time the 3 of us were separated, one of them managed to punch me in the shoulder. But, i did much worse to them.
"I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you three to leave", said one of the people who worked at the place. I started to object but these to other guys picked me up and put me out the back. I may be able to fight, but I'm still pretty light. The two morons followed us and took off running as soon as the door closed. I glared at them until they were out of sight, leaned against the brick wall, and slid down. I sighed and brought my hand to my shoulder. It didn't hurt much but it was definitely bruised.
Couple of minutes later, the door burst open. I got up quickly, alarmed.
"Oh hey Fiama" I said and slid back down the wall again. There was a couple of seconds of silence. "Um", said Fiama, "Thanks for back....there" "Don't mention it", I answer still looking at the ground. Why cant i control my emotions.
"Oh. I just remembered something!", Fiama said suddenly causing me to look up, "New York" "Oh", said thinking back to our conversation, "You don't know who's listening to your conversations these days. Ask your mom if you can crash at my place and we can talk all about it" "Sure thing", she said and put her hand on the door. She paused, "I can convince the workers to let you back in. I mean, it is my party"
I got up and said, "Nah. The party's fun and all but my mom said that I should be home at midnight and it takes sometime to get home from here" She smiled, "Alright. See ya" "Later"
When i got home my mom was waiting in the living room.
"Hey mom"
"Hi. I guess your not that late"
Best. Mom. Ever.
I laughed, "Yeah. I ended up leaving around midnight instead" I was about to head upstairs until i remembered something.
"Mom"
"Hm?"
"Fiama wants to stay for the night."
"Sure. Just make sure she doesn't use the doorbell."
"Kay"
I bolted upstairs, undressed, and went under the covers of my bed.
My mom is a great mom, she really is, but she acted a lot nicer than usual today. I expected a lecture at the very least. I turned over and realized that it was because of my good grades and the fact that i barely did anything that bad all through out senior year. After making a mental note of not mentioning what happened at the party, I looked at the clock. 12:25. Party ends at 1:00. Fiama should be here by 1:20 ish. Might as well play video games to kill time. I put on a white t-shirt and pants and went to the T.V. Which video game should i play? These are the questions that are important to my oh-so boring life. If only i knew how exciting, dangerous, and scary my life would soon be.
