If there was one person who made Moon Byulyi feel like a goddess, it was Ahn Hyejin. The younger girl constantly showered her in compliments, whether they be sweet sleepy mumbles or greasy and followed by suggestive winks. Byulyi found her confidence slowly growing the more she was around Hyejin, something she didn't think would ever happen. If she had looked at herself now from the past, she would have never believe she made it this far.
Byulyi had always been self conscious about her body, but once she became an idol trainee, things got worse. After being turned away from an audition for not being small enough, the girl went home humiliated and vowed to get fitter. So began Byulyi's spiral into a constant battle with her self worth; no matter how much weight she lost it just didn't feel like enough. After that audition she lost 32 pounds and cut back on what she was eating. As a dancer, she was quite active already but still stayed up for late night running and workouts. By the time she was accepted into RBW entertainment, Byulyi was bordering 110 pounds.
Of course, that wasn't the worst of it. 110 pounds, while small for her height, was still not enough. The other female idols she met were so much thinner, and their thighs weren't as thick as Byulyi's, not to mention their toned abs that fans went crazy for. Byulyi didn't know when it had gotten so bad, but she wanted nothing more than to be like those idols.
Byulyi and her group Mamamoo began preparing for debut, which introduction a new schedule of practice and preparations. Though the strange hours and constant work put a wrench in her workouts, it didn't completely ruin them. Having to prepare for debut meant spending a lot of time in the dance studio, especially when her new leader, Yongsun, asked for some extra help with dance.
After Mamamoo's debut, Byulyi became more comfortable with her group and it was safe to say she relaxed a bit. She was an idol now and she had accomplished what she once thought would never happen. She allowed herself to let go a bit, going out for a celebratory dinner or two with her staff and members.
Yet every time a promotion rolled around, Byulyi found herself working harder and harder again. Her weight eventually dropping back down to the low 100s. She didn't know when to stop, staying at the studio past 12 am working on new choreography and pushing herself further and further. Skipping meals in favour of practicing for shows instead or walking her puppy Daebak every morning. It continued like this for a while and while Wheein and Yongsun questioned her health a couple times, chastising her for losing so much sleep, they didn't worry too much. Everyone saw it was dedication and a love for dance, everyone expect one person.
Hyejin knew, she knew what Byulyi was doing. She saw it happen with Yongsun and Wheein too, just on a smaller scale. All of her members dropped weight around promoting times, she did too but she didn't care as much as they did. They weren't instructed to diet but it was just common knowledge that female idols were expected to. Hyejin didn't mind much about her weight, she had lost some since middle school and had gained muscle. She often got praised for her thick thighs and curvy body, so she let that boost her confidence and embraced the good comments.
She saw Byulyi and how she was pushing herself. Whenever they would go to eat as a group, Byulyi would order something small and then end up letting Wheein eat half of it. She was always in the practice rooms or at the gym, unless she was writing lyrics. Hyejin didn't like how her Unnie was treating herself, she could see the strain it was putting on her mental health as well as her physical body.
As they had gotten closer, Hyejin began to realize just how much she noticed Byulyi. In a way she had only noticed one girl before, that girl being Wheein back when they were in middle school. She noticed the little things about Byulyi; how attractive she looked when she was writing or how free spirited she seemed when dancing. How she looked so confident when rapping and how even though she was uncomfortable with her singing voice, she still managed to move people with her vocals. Hyejin soon realized that perhaps she had feelings for her older member, but decided then was not the time to act on anything of the sort. So she suppressed the thoughts, instead focusing on how to approach Byul about her weight loss.
