I sit on the edge of the old wooden dock to comfortably watch the ducks floating on the glistening water out in the distance. I look down on my bare feet and played in the cool water. Something touched my toe. There it is again! What is it? A force pulled my foot down but I pulled myself out of the water in time! I stood quickly and look for the thing that tried to pull me under. There was nothing. What was that?

Now there’s a bubbling sound. What could that be now? It sounds like something blowing lots of bubbles under the dock and cracking nutshells. The dock broke in half behind me! I can’t move. The left post supporting the dock broke! Now, the right! I lost balance and fell to the water screaming. The same force that tried to pull me under earlier is tugging at me again! I tried to swim to the surface, but it was so strong! I can’t escape it! I can’t even see what’s pulling me. My arms and legs are getting tired. I’m getting tired! The force is pulling me deeper. I can’t reach the surface! I can’t!

Voices were screaming in my ear “Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!” as I was being pulled deeper and deeper.
