10/12/17

Dear Reader,

Today was a day of many mistakes. I don’t know what’s going to happen now, and that scares me. I’m currently huddled in a corner of a cave while everyone else is asleep, trying to silently write everything down before whatever it is comes back to the cave.

I’ll explain what’s happened before you have a heart attack. You see, the first mistake I made today was to not go to school. I told my mom I wasn’t feeling well, which was a lie. I think she saw through it though, because she let me stay home from school, something they never do. So, for most of the day, I lounged around in my room, doing nothing, and trying to keep my mind focused on anything other than the frightening things that have been happening around town lately. At one point, I decided to go outside and get some fresh air, so I grabbed my backpack, hoping to maybe do some studying outside to make up for the fact that I was missing school, and headed for the backyard.

That was my second mistake.

I sat out there for at least a good thirty minutes doing homework and studying for tests when I heard a strange noise. At first, I ignored it. After all, it could have been whoever it was that was kidnapping people. But what I didn’t do, and I’m kicking myself for not doing now, is go back inside. If I had gone back inside, I might be safe now.

That was my third mistake.

After about 15 minutes, I heard another noise, and this is the one that finally made me curious. It was a faint, feminine sounding scream. Is that Sarah? Miss Beryl? I decided to investigate.

And that, my dear readers, was my fourth mistake.

I slung my backpack over my shoulder and headed towards where the sound seemed to be coming from, my heart thumping in my chest. Cautiously, I tiptoed into the woods behind my house. The scream got louder the deeper I got into the forest. I heard a skittering noise, which made me jump. When I glanced, it seemed to be a bunny hopping through the forest, coming from the same direction that the scream was coming from. Is someone else being kidnapped?

I saw a brown blur run through my peripheral vision. Adrenaline kicking into gear, I ran towards the mysterious brown figure. It was strange, it looked like a human, but it also could have been an ape. It was brown, but not like my skin, or even someone of a lighter skin. Heck, I wasn’t even sure it had skin. It looked like it had fur instead. It’s appearance seemed oddly familiar, though I couldn’t quite tell why.

I felt a warm breath on the back of my neck. I turned around, and saw a glimpse of an oddly ape-like, yet faintly human face. Then my vision went black, and I felt a scratchy bag, most likely some form of a burlap sack, get tied over my head. Holy shit. I’m the next victim.

I was then hoisted up into the air by a pair of large strong hands. I was put on something hard yet fuzzy, that felt like a shoulder, but was definitely covered in some kind of fur. Ok, this is not a human. This is not good, this is not good at all.

After a few minutes of fighting and struggling, I was finally plopped on the floor, which felt cold and bumpy, like there were rocks all over the floor. I sat there for a few minutes, my chest pounding. Then, I heard a familiar voice in the distance;

“Guys, I think we’ve got a new roommate!”

I started trying to pull the sack off of my head, but it was tied with a complicated knot. Then, I felt someone come up to me, and snip the cord off the sack. After my eyes adjusted to the light, I stared in total confusion at the group of people in front of me. Sarah was no more than maybe a foot away from my face, smiling widely. There were no bruises or cuts on her body, her long blonde hair was a little tangled, but she didn’t seem malnourished. In fact, she seemed as happy, if not even a little happier than she was before. Something’s not right about this. Is this some kind of freaky cult?

“Where am I?” I groaned, rubbing my neck a little.

“No clue,” Miss Beryl, who was standing behind Sarah, replied happily. Next to her was KJ and Brad. “I don’t mind though, it’s actually a pretty decent place to live in.”

I looked around the cave. It was furnished pretty nicely, for a cave in the middle of who knows where. There were quite a few beds hidden in smaller tunnels of the cave, the entrances of which were covered up with ragged curtains. The furniture in the main part of the room was sparse and faded, but fairly nice. There was a working oven, microwave, and refrigerator. The refrigerator and pantry were actually fairly well stocked, though the selection of foods was odd. It was mostly wild foods, though some of it seemed to be things that had somehow been stolen from the grocery store. Which is odd. Of course, maybe he got it out of the dumpsters or something. But that’s not important.

Anyways, I suppose at this point I could have investigated the cave further, or tried to escape, but I didn’t feel like doing much. One thing I did do however, is attempt to text my parents. Thankfully, my phone still had a fair amount of battery, so I texted my parents. I told them I thought I had been kidnapped, gave them the password to my apple account, and told them to use Find My IPhone to help the cops find me. And then I put my phone on the lowest brightness setting, and put it in my backpack, which I’m honestly a little surprised I still have. I dunno why whatever it was that kidnapped me didn’t try to take it away. But I guess that’s a blessing in disguise really.

Well, I should get some sleep, and process all that has happened to me. Clearly I won’t die in my sleep or anything, but I should still be wary.

Sincerely,

Saul Jones
