Dear Reader,

Last night I made the decision that I would scope out the outside of the cave, and attempt to figure out a way to escape and head home. What I didn’t realize, however, is what would happen today, when I made it out of the cave.

Early this morning, I finished crudely sharpening a few butter knives for backup. I then stashed them in my backpack, grabbed a ton of non-perishable food, and got ready to go. I glanced around to see if anyone else was up, then began to walk around. I had no idea where the exit was, but I was determined to find it. I figured it was likely in the direction of the living room, so I headed that way. However, as I approached the living room, there was a fork in the tunnel of the cavern. Either of these could be the exit, but if I go down the wrong one, I may be stuck here forever.

I stared at the floor of the cave around the entrances to the two tunnels. I knew that there had to be something, anything, that I could use to get out of here.

I could hear voices coming from the living room area. It sounded like everyone else was waking up. I’ll come back for you, I promise. I know last night I said that you guys should just stay here, but this isn’t right. I promise I’ll do everything I can to get you guys home. Not because you want to be home, but because this is no way to live.

I heard footsteps come from the left fork, so I hid behind the right fork. As the footsteps got closer and closer, my heart pounded in my chest. Suddenly, I saw a large hairy figure exit from the tunnel, and I nearly let out a loud gasp. It was a tall man, who appeared to be covered with fur. He definitely looked like an ape, but didn’t appear to actually be an ape. He was too tall to be an ape, and his face was definitely human like. But the one thing that stood out to me the most, aside from his white lab coat, and large human feet, was the badge on his lab coat. I could barely make it out, but it looked like it read; ‘Professor Bigfoot PhD.’

Well this is weird. I think we have been captured by Bigfoot. Like, how many people can say that? “I’ve been captured by Bigfoot before”

Well, I guess there are some people who think they’ve been captured by bigfoot. Though then again, aren’t I in that exact situation? Wouldn’t that mean they had been captured by Bigfoot too?

My head hurts.

I watched Bigfoot drop off a couple bags, then head towards the left fork. For a second, I could have sworn he saw me, but I guess he didn’t because he kept on walking. When I knew it was safe, I began tiptoeing out of the left fork. I followed the sound of Bigfoot’s loud footsteps, being careful to ensure that my own were as silent as they could possibly be. As we traversed the hall, all I could hear was the sounds of my heart beating in my chest, footsteps, and my own thoughts.

What if he hears me? Will he throw me back in there? Will he kill me?

Wait, but if he’s some kind of a scientist, shouldn’t we have agreed to be here, instead of being kidnapped? Maybe Bigfoot doesn’t have any sort of an ethics code he has to follow.

Is this how it always is when people get kidnapped by bigfoot? Is that where all the clothing came from- the bodies of his dead test subjects?

Why is bigfoot a scientist? How did he become a scientist?

Has he managed to escape being seen by kidnapping anyone who got a glimpse of him?

How much longer is this tunnel anyways? How has he not managed to hear or see me yet? Am I more stealthy than Bigfoot? I mean, that’s gotta be an amazing achievement.

Bigfoot stopped, and looked around. Then, a harsh light began to slowly fill the room from the right side of the cave entrance to the left. It appeared as though he was opening a door, which seemed odd. Then, the light left the room, going from the left side of the cave entrance to the right. It was definitely some kind of door. But why was there a door in a cave? Maybe this isn't a cave, like I suspected.

I waited until Bigfoot was definitely gone, and walked towards where the light had come from. I held my hand out, and began grasping for the door. After a while, I felt an artificial, and definitely man-made lump on the wall. I was able to turn it, and open the door. It was definitely a door handle. I pushed forwards, and the door opened. I expected to be greeted by a forest, but I wasn't. Instead, I found myself somewhere foreign. Someplace unknown. Someplace that didn't feel like Earth. I looked up, and saw two suns in the sky.

Am I on another planet?

I ran back inside the cave. I can't just easily run home and then get everyone else if I'm on another planet. I'm going to have to convince them to leave with me.

And so, I'm stuck in this cave for another day. I need to figure out how to convince everyone to leave, and fast. We're on another planet! I'd be willing to bet as soon as I tell them that, they'll be willing to leave. But then again, maybe not. I thought what I told them yesterday could convince them before, but now I'm not so sure. I mean, normal people would want to leave the captivity of a monster, right?

Then again, I'm not even entirely sure that they are normal. But no matter what, I’m gonna make sure that they get home to their families. No matter the costs.

Sincerely,

Saul Jones
