Adam’s POV:
I couldn’t help but look at her perfect pink lips. It may be hormones, but I am so sure that it’s not. With Summer, it never is.
She looked prettier than all the girls inside the party. Yet she wore no make-up and wore an oversized jersey with shorts.
She is beautiful, I knew it then and I know it now. My eyes suddenly have the urge to sneak a peek at her lips again. It was becoming very hard to breathe with her around.
“Why’d you leave?” She says out of the blue.
“Summer.” I breathe out softly.
She shakes her head vigorously, “No, tell me why you left.”
I run my fingers into my hair feeling the air get hot and heavy.
“Drake said that you had an explanation. Well, Adam? I am waiting for that damn good explanation that you have.” Her voice is stern and sarcastic. Fuck! She is pissed. She’s standing there death glaring me with her arms folded.
“I can’t.”
“I gave you the benefit of the doubt because we used to be close, but I guess I was such an idiot to think that you’d actually have a great reason. Come on Adam! Give me this great explanation!”
“I can’t. I promised.”
She runs her fingers in her hair and she looks up at the night sky and says, “I didn’t just lose my Mum that day, Adam.” Tears fall from her eyes.
I pull her in a hug and squeeze her gently, “I’m sorry.” I whisper in her ear. It pains me that she has cried twice today but it kills me to know that I caused it.
She shoves me off and wipes her tears from her eyes, “I’m tired. I’m done.”
I watch her unnatural chestnut hair flutter in the air as she walks away from me. She’s changed and it’s something that I need to get used to. Her natural blonde wavy hair was gone and was replaced with straight light brown hair. I’m not saying it’s ugly, but I just miss her natural self.
Although her bluish green eyes have stayed the same. Moving to New York was so hard without Summer. Knowing that I couldn’t talk to her or see her was a price I had to pay for her happiness.
“You know you can’t start something and then just ditch me?” Far out, I just want to be alone right now.
“That’s awkward, you came onto me.” I don’t even bother to look at the girl. I don’t really remember her name, but I know it starts with T.
“Whatever, just come back in.” She grabs my hand and drags me into the party.
She starts to move around me like I’m some kind of pole. I start to roll my eyes when I suddenly notice Summer. She is in the middle of the lounge room with everyone else dancing. What caught me off guard was that someone’s hands were roaming around her.
I clenched my teeth and looked for the nearest beer. A guy walks past with a cup and I snatch it straight out of his hands. I skull and look back at her. Her eyes were looking at mine and I instantly shudder.
“I love you, Adam.” She cups my cheek as it is drenched with tears. “But I need you to do something while I’m gone.”
“Anything.”
“Keep her happy. Even if you have to remove yourself from the equation.”
‘Remove yourself from the equation.’ I repeat in my head. She’s still looking at me, so I turn away and grab the girl by the waist and kissed her as if I was kissing Summer.
