After Drake made sure I was okay he proceeded to lunch, I however lost my appetite. I headed to my bike again.

“Summer!” Mr Cambridge, the principle, yelled my name from down the hall way.

“Yes, sir?” I started over to him annoyed that I can’t get out of school.

“I’d like you to meet one of our newest additions to Cambridge High School.” He steps back to reveal a boy around my age. “This is Alex Preston he will be in your grade and I was wondering if you could be his tour guide.”

“Sure why not?” I say trying to hide my bitterness.

“Great! Well now I’m off to sort some paper work out now.” I roll my eyes when he leaves and rake my hair with my hand.

“Uh hi.” I try to avoid the awkwardness but that doesn’t mean I succeeded.

I take a good look at him and damn is he fine or what?

“Sup.” I pop the ‘p’. I started walking to the cafeteria to just drop him off at my brother’s.

“Uh not to sound rude or anything but uh where are we going?”

By the time I was about to answer him we had arrived to the cafeteria. The social jungle.

“This is the cafeteria, over there are my brothers. I thought you needed some friends.” All eyes were on us, I didn’t know if it was because of the new guy or because of my encounter with Adam.

We walked towards my brothers’ table and you can definitely tell this is a jock group. Everyone is wearing their varsity jackets, well that’s if you don’t count Adam in his leather jacket.

“Hey uh Drake, Mr Cambridge got me to take the new guy around but I need to go.” Drake knew exactly about what I meant when I said that I needed to go. Before I turned to walk away I had intense stare off with Adam. He had no right to try to be the person that I confide to. He had his chance, now it has disintegrated into tiny particles.

The cool breeze brushed through my face fluttering my brown hair. I sat on the swing sketching the beautiful scenery around me. I could feel the waves beneath my feet calming my nerves from Adam. My sketchbook was getting filled with realistic views of this beach. But no matter how realistic it looks, I couldn’t capture the emotion I felt in the moment. I felt safe.

“Summer, is your Mum picking you up?” A teacher asked. Mum was 45 minutes late and I had to get to volleyball practise. I sat near the school gates waiting for my Mum to show up. Those 45 minutes turned into an hour, then an hour and a half and then two hours.

I got fed up and started to take a run. As I make it to the nearest lights I hear the ambulance and police cars surrounding a truck and a car.

My bags fell as I notice that I’ve seen that car a billion times before. I ran to the car and open the driver’s seat and dragged the body out before the car exploded. I had dragged it all the way to my bags.

I drop to my knees I keep shoving the body, my fists turn pale around the bunched up clothing that I held sternly. Tears were streaming down my face.

“Don’t die! PLEASE!” I yell as I bang her chest.

“MUM!”

Back at home everything was the same. The boys hadn’t come back yet. This is when I feel Mum’s presence the most. She used to play music way too loud and dance as if there was no tomorrow. I turn on the radio and feel myself let go to the rhythm.
