This is a new chapter since editing began so enjoy! :)

CHAPTER NINETEEN

The familiar cool sensation of chains wrapped around my wrists, clinking together eerily in the darkness. It was pitch black, the rough cloth rubbing uncomfortably against the delicate skin of my eyes. Seriously? Chains, and a blindfold? We had to be more advanced than this!

“Eva?” I heard someone whisper from next to me, and suddenly I realised that I couldn’t tell if it was Finn or Aiden.

“Yeah?” I replied quietly, trying not to disturb the driver and the guard next to me.

“What-“ he started but was suddenly cut off by a growl from the guard.

“Shut up now, or I’ll shut you up myself,”

That threat hung over us for the rest of the journey, which dragged on for what felt like forever – even though it was probably only 5 or 6 hours at the most. Aiden or Finn, whoever it was, didn’t try to continue the brief conversation, and neither did I attempt it. I knew all too well what could happen to us here.

The driver and guard didn’t speak much apart from “get in” and “shut up” and “get out” as well as some threats which I knew were more than idle.

We were a special delivery for Level 10, and we got stopped at each Level Gate for security clearance.

The first time they just gave us a once-over and we passed through. Then they got stricter as we went along.

By the time we’d made it to the Level 10 Gate we had already been thoroughly searched. I suppose it was simply unfortunate that the guard on duty was an absolute pervert while he searched us.

Finally, the trip came to an end. We were in.

The guards didn’t put our blindfolds on once we had passed Level 10 Gate security clearance.

I could only gape at the magnificence of the inner heart of the city. All the buildings were polished and gleaming silver, and the streets were almost shining white. I couldn’t miss the eerily silent ‘workers’ who went about their job quickly and quietly, brushing the streets, cleaning things.

But it seemed we were destined for a very important person.

We drove along the streets, eventually arriving at the gilded gates of the home of Mr Carter – one of the most influential members of the SPA.

Our mission, do we choose to accept it (except, we have no choice in the matter so we have to), is to infiltrate his home for a small period of time and bring this information back to Askove.

We were marched through the elaborate entranceway and I could immediately smell the money this man had. Walking along a cobblestone path, there was red and white rose bushes strewn alongside us, spreading their sweet scent through the air. Tiny fountains were dotted through the grounds, and in the distance I could see the mansion. It reminded me of a medieval style castle – it certainly looked like one. Stone walls, and to be honest it was probably a remodelled castle taken from somewhere else around the world.
